The idea of this thread/poll is to get people to check out some other - almost all European - bands. And possibly new types of music. And hot chicks.

All song clips are from the artists' sites or Amazon - so it's all public domain, nothing hosted by me or personal servers or anything. You can tell by the quality (=meh), but still get a pretty good idea in many cases.

Tarja Turunen of 'Nightwish'
Pic 1, Pic 2, Pic 3. Song clips - 'Nemo', 'Ever Dream'.

Sharon Den Adel of 'Within Temptation'
Pic 1, Pic 2, Pic 3. Videos - 'Stand My Ground', 'Running Up That Hill', 'Mother Earth'.

Christina Scabbia of 'Lacuna Coil'
Pic 1, Pic 2, Pic 3, Pic 4 (who gets extra hotness points for still being hot at 33). Videos - 'Swamped', 'Heaven's a Lie'.

Nienke de Jong of 'Autumn'
Pic 1, Pic 2, Pic 3. Videos - 'Gallery of Reality' and 'Premeditated Dying'

Simone Simons from 'Epica'
Pic 1, Pic 2, Pic 3 (wow!), Pic 4, Pic 5. Song clips - 'Facade of Reality', 'Sensorium'

Vibeke Stene from 'Tristania'
Pic 1, Pic 2, Pic 3. Song clips - 'Beyond the Veil' CD ('A Sequel of Decay' is a good choice to listen to!)

Anneke van Giersbergen from 'The Gathering'
Pic 1, Pic 2, Pic 3. Videos - 'Monsters' and 'Liberty Bell'

Liv Kristine once of 'Theater of Tragedy', and now 'Leaves' Eyes'
Pics 1, Pic 2, Pic 3. Song clips - 'Leaves Whisper', 'Return to Life'.

Nell of 'Theater of Tragedy' (since Liv left)
Pic 1, Pic 2, Pic 3. Song clips - 'Fade', 'Seven'.

Henriette Bordvik of 'Sirenia'
Pic 1, Pic 2. Song Clips - 'Sirenian Shores', 'Save me from myself'

Amy Lee of 'Evanescence'
Pic 1, Pic 2, Pic 3, Pic 4. Song clips - 'My Immortal', 'Haunted', 'Whisper'

Floor Jansen of 'After Forever'
Pic 1, Pic 2, Pic 3, Pic 4. Song clips - 'Beautiful Emptiness', 'Eccentric'

Sonja Kraushofer of 'L'âme Immortelle'
Pic 1 (wow!!), Pic 2, Pic 3. Song clips - 'Judgement', 'Echoes', 'No Trust'

Christina Scabbia is pretty hot.

Edit: Just listened to "Swamped" by C. Scabbia and man that would be such a kick a$$ song if devil dude would've let her sing all the way through.

The one in fishnets.

Or, wait, the one in fishnets we can SEE. Don't want to make any assumptions....

(No, really, sorry about the lack of picks, but just TRY and do a Google on 'Nell' and see if you find anything useful! Damnable people who can't pick a lastname AND firstname when they take a stage name.....)

What about Angela Gossow from Arch Enemy or Janis Tanaka and Emily Burton from Fireball Ministry?
Although, they're heavy metal, instead of that pop junk.

LOL - 'pop junk'? Sorry, but I can't see any talent in Arch Enemy. The group sounds for all intents and purposes like a couple guys rubbing sheet metal across their guitar strings while someone growls into a microphone.

While some amount of growling is fine and all, the ability to carry a note is ALSO important.

Link to some Arch Enemy videos, although I still don't see any talent.

IMHO, if you go for that kind of thing, Kittie is MUCH better. At least they sound like they are thinking about singing.

whew! for a second there I was wondering if there were any pale, chestless girls left in goth metal and then there was Amy Lee.

Tarja/Nightwish. Been messing with some Lacuna coil tracks in the past 24 hours. I can't decide if I like it or not. It's on the very cusp of "meh"

And FTR, my playlist right now is Nightwish/Leaves Eyes/Within Temptation right now.

 for a dedicated gothmetal thread, although you'd do better to call it what it is, rather than pop metal, so we all know WTF we're walking into.

Now that we're all in one place and paying attention... Does anyone else ever notice the STRANGE looks you get for driving up to school/whatever with this kind of stuff blasting?

Interesting - I just can't wrap my mind around Leaves Eyes.

Still, Within Temptation for teh

One of the few bands in the genre my wife likes - and likes a LOT. Has a lot to do with the composition, I think. Lead singer is talented, and writes clever lyrics. Band plays well, and the music just....sounds good.

Lacuna Coil is definitely mood dependant. You play any online shooters? Say, Tribes or Planetside? Try looping 3 or 4 Lacuna Coil CDs while in the game - TOTALLY perfect fit.

FWIW, 'Comalies' is definitely Lacuna Coil's best album by some margin.

LOL - 'goth metal' is SO OFTEN used in a derogatory way, didn't want to use it. 'Symphonic Metal' is a better way to put it that I actually prefer....but some of the groups don't really fit that description, so....

(Odd that 'Autumn' gets so few votes - 'Gallery of Reality' is really QUITE a catchy song. It WILL get stuck in your head!)
