Anyone know if this is a rebranded Ricoh like the ones from last last year (the 6x deal from Amazon). Got one of those last year for the gf's computer and it's great. Would like to know this one will support CloneCD, etc.

is there a specific serial # that you can post or is there a way to find out if it's a rebadged Ricoh, or are we pretty much taking our chances on it being one?

There are ones with Ricoh firmware, and ones with Teac firmware. Neither is a bad choice, but do you realise what you're implying when you say they're "rebadged"? Compatible firmware and compatable parts do not make them "=".

madthumbs,

I always thought rebadged just means packaged differently and under a different brand but internal guts the same? No?

When I ordered the 6x4x32 at Christmas time, I got a TEAC 8x8x32 upgrade in its place. I suspect that is what this one is. Works great, though.

I have no problem realising they "can" be rebadged... My problem is people implying that they are simply based on firmware compatibilities or the place of manufacture. Philips and Magnavox are the same company, but you don't get a Philips by buying a Magnavox. Even in a case like that the parts are sorted for quality, and tolerances are different. No one ever bothers to produce benchmark comparisons, inside information (a friend that works in the company), etc when making such claims as rebadging. I've worked in a few factories and I know how they operate. At the very least you have to acknowledge that a company that doesn't make it's own drive may not be consistent with other drives, won't have the same warranty or tech support, etc.. blah blah blah. Not saying this isn't a good deal obviously if Teac and Ricoh put their name on the firmware it's probably good, but what's stopping Cendyne from using yet another manufacturer?

Amazon also has cendyne 12x10x32 drive, and it is ricoh drive. The problem is that ricoh has two 12x10x32 drives, One with burn proof, and one without. Does anyone has any info on this?
