As most of you probably know already, Best Buy has mailed out 10% off single item coupons for this weekend. I just wanted to point out an excellent use for the coupon on a fantastic Digital SLR camera, the EOS Digital Rebel. I got this camera using a coupon during the last Preferred Customer weekend last month, and it's worth every penny. Most stores only offer the body-only version for $899, so getting the 18-55mm EF-S lens free is definitely hot! It's equivalent to about 3X zoom (in consumer digicam-speak), but a great starter lens.

$899 for a TRUE SLR Digital with lens from a quality retailer is a HOT deal IMO. I might add that it's also worth picking up their 4-year replacement warranty for only $99, which brings you back up to regular retail, but with a great warranty as well.

Great Camera!

I got the KIT from Dell a month or two ago for $899 with their 10% off peripherals promotion that wasn't supposed to apply towards SLRs but did. I've taken 3800 pics so far, I love it.
Got a Sigma 28-135mm Macro lens, the remote control, and 512mb Kingston CF card for it too.

check out afew pics: minor PS sharpening. http://yarinwww.freemansden.com:81/picts/best/IMG_2145.jpg

Next year I hope to invest in some nice glass.

LOL... i actually got this camera last time bb had the 10% off... i checked out dell at the time and they did have this camera for sell with 10% once a while... it comes and go... the main reason i bought it at bb was because of the one year no interest financing... hehe... that was worth the buy... also, i got the 4 year plan for like $60 and they can even clean out the lint in your camera during this period (so that's what the salesperson told me) anywayz, camera works great.... * DOES NOT COME WITH FLASH CARD * spend another $100 for 512mb kingston memory... good luck for all you buyers

*note: check bb store and see if they have the camera in stock before you go buy.... not many stores have this camera in stock...bummer

I got 24 months no interest from BB, which sealed the deal. Did you know you can actually request a term change at the CS counter if you want to get 18 or 24 months no interest? They were only offering 12 months and the manager told me to ask for 24 months term change at the counter. Also, I HIGHLY recommend picking up the fastest CF cards you can get. I picked up the Sandisk Ultra II CF 256MB from NewEgg for $62 and the faster write speeds do help in SLR's.

ckwong723: Get the Digital Rebel if you can spare the extra $200. You won't regret it. Having the ability to add more lenses, the *extremely* fast auto-focus, and the extra 1.3MP (DR=6.3MP, G5=5MP) make spending an extra $200 WELL worth it. Not to mention if you put it on no interest financing $200 more isn't much to swallow per month.

256mb will only hold around 70+ pix... that's why i got 512 :D ... anywayz, after reviewing on some websites (lexar.com) i found that this camera does not support the faster write speed, anyhow i don't have a problem with the speed with my kingston camera unless if you want to take continous pictures all the time (camera can store up to 4 pictures before writing it to the flash card)

BUT I DID NOT KNOW I CAN CHANGE IT TO 24-MONTH INTEREST FINANCING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :(

They'd tell you they will clean the lint out of your puckerhole if it got you to buy a PSP. for $60, though, it might be worth it.

For me, it was definitely worth it. I think it depends on each BB, though. I have a PSP on my phone and they replace my phone without asking anything more than "what's wrong with it?" Since I am sure nobody that works there has this camera I doubt they will do anything more than that if something ever went wrong with it. The worst that'll happen is that it'll break 3 years from now and they won't be making the same model anymore, so I'll get a better one!

As for 256MB vs. 512MB vs. speeds, check out Rob Galbraith's Site for actual testing of over 40 different CF cards with this camera and many others. It's very informative! And I only got 256MB for now since I am not going on any extended trips till next year, when I plan to pick up another 256MB card and a portable digital storage device for on-the-run card emptying.

LOL... well i was thinking even if there's nothing wrong with the camera after 4 years, i will still take it back to them and clean it before the service is over :D

of course do it a few months before and if in any case they mess up cleaning it, i can get a new camera!

With 8.25% tax in some places here in CA, this is not much of a deal at all.

Coughing up that much dough for such an overpriced toy is the most preposterous thing I have ever heard. You should be ashamed of yourself for posting this crap on the hot deals forum.

Wanna explain to everyone why it's overpriced? And calling that a toy? I guess you don't take pictures, nor understand anyone that does.. that's nothing compared to other cameras out there.. its rather low priced in fact. Check out the EOS-1Ds..

Just ignore Kunislav, thepimento, CroationComet, and Sparke. They are my friends who are trying to thread crap a good deal because they're jealous that I have the camera and they don't. :D
:camera:

Summary: If you have any aspirations for more control over the pictures you take, then you surely already realize the value of a camera like the Digital Rebel, and you also know that $899 for the kit is a great price. Yeah, sales tax sucks, but you pay sales tax or shipping wherever you get it anyway, and the 4-year warranty and no interest financing more than offset 8.75% sales tax.

You really don't know what the hell you're talking about. I got this camera for my father in-law who's professional aerial photographer. He had only used film cameras before, now after getting a couple of lessons and using it for a few months it has almost paid for itself. His customers (he does industrial construction progress photos) are so thrilled that they asking for more shots than ever before (he did get a big canon lens with image stabilzation). This is a great camera and the closest model to it is probably another $400 more.

Oh well.

What are you going to do with 20 of them and how will you be able to afford them?
