BUY.com has the US Modular 2GB Monstor drive USB flash/microdrive for $49.99 and free shipping. That is $25 per gb storage--tough to beat that with standard flash memory devices. NO rebates.

Also they have the Buslink USB 2.0 4gb mobile 1" hard drive for $69.95, free shipping, and no rebates.

I love these things as they are the cheapest price for the amount of memory, although you do have to be careful as they are more shock-sensitive than standard flash memory. But at about hlf the price, it is worth the risk IMO. I have two and have never had a problem with them, ot with the ones I have in my digital cameras, which get used regularly.

Does either of these devices have a standard CompactFlash interface microdrive that can be removed for use in a camera/mp3 player?

If you re into opening up the cases you can get the standard hitachi microdrive out from within, but no guarantees that it will work in your camera or MP3 player.

If you are looking for a good dedicated compactflash II device for your MP3 or camera check out Amazon's deal on the Seagate 8mp microdrive---$196.64 - $40 MIR with free shipping + $156.64, less than $20 per gb storage, and you can even get another $5 rebate from procegrabber from doing a survey after you purchase it. See pther recent posts.

Yeah, I know about that drive. I don't want to spend $160. $40 or $70 I can deal with.

Right. But again, if I can crack open the one from Buy.com and save $30, why would I buy the Seagate. But that's the question: Inside the 2 and 4GB devices is there a standard CF microdrive, or is it one of those "disabled" CF microdrives, or is it some other sort of microdrive?

All bets are off. I have seen these OEM microdrives for sale on ebay, half of which say they are CF-II compliant and the other half which say they are not and only work with specified devices. Nothing to help from the mfr websites.
