Dell has 25% off hard drives right now. Find their 1gb microdrive (CF sized hard drive) for $349.99. IBM just bumped down the price of these last week - it was in the $500 range a week ago.

Take the 25% off, and it's down to $262.46. For some reason when I rang it up, it gave me free overnight shipping too. So you can get a 1 gigabyte microdrive for $262.46, when it used to be nearly double that last week. A good deal in my book.

By the way, the Ipaq *CAN* use this in the CF sleeve, but it sucks batteries. Better bet is to get the PCMCIA sleeve which has a built in battery.

Really hot for people with PDAs
I know that the IBM microdrive is compatible but
Does anyone know if this is compatible with the Ipaq?
Thanx

These have been around $350 for some time now. Check your pricing search engines. We purchased a couple in June for $360 delivered for evaluation but decided to go with CF memory instead due to the fact that these drives consume way too much power. In a Compaq H3635 with the Drive adapter sleeve and supplemental battery included with the sleeve, the battery life was just under 2 hours with this drive. With 256MB CF memory just over $100 and 512MB dropping rapidly, these microdrives have a very limited customer base unless they can figure out some way to drastically reduce the power consumption.

For $250 you can get five 128MB Compact Flash cards at Newegg. This would equal 640MB, which is obviously less than the drive, but these cards don't have any moving parts, so they should have a longer life-span.

perfect for my digicam... but do i want to be taking THIS many pics?

with 64MB, i take around 120 pics (never end up taking that much anyways)

with 1GB... i can take 1875 pics. great.

but do i really really need it? AHHHHHHH!

i need to stop checking deals sites... before i go bankrupt.

Well, either Dell raised their prices or I'm blind. All I can find is a 1GB MD Kit for $490.95 or stand-alone for $441.95. 340MB is $264.95 and 512MB is $311.95. All prices are before 25% discount. Where is the microdrive priced at $350?

You never know when you need the space and you can never have too much space. I once took over 400 pictures on a weekend trip to Yosemite. I used up 70% of the 1gb microdrive then. I plan a week long trip to the national parks in Utah next week and will probably use more than 1gb.

I think that the original poster is referring to the Iomega branded 1GB microdrive priced at $349.99. However, this is a PCMCIA card version and the HD is not removeable from the PCMCIA card if you check the specs at the Iomega web site.

<< my Jornada 548 uses a microdrive fine too. >>

I thought the Jornadas only accepted CF Type I cards? Isn't the Microdrive a CF Type II? How'd you get it to fit?

I checked the Iomega site. The drive comes with the adaptor. The drive fits digital camera etc., the adaptor is supplied to get files into laptops.

This is a nce price, but I live In Florida and they charge me over $15.00 tax :( But would be nice for my new Canon G2 which is arriving tomorrow.

They did only accept CF at one time, but now they've got an adapter that will allow all CF II cards.

Check the PocketPC sites, some of them have reviews of the device.
