Buyxtremegear has informed me that the motherboard that they are shipping IS NOT THE PRO II VERSION. Therefore this deal is DEAD. Even though my invoice did indeed say "Pro II" they are shipping the Pro version.

i hate you 🙁 no, really.. i hate you

just 2 days ago i placed an order for a mobo + athlon 64 3000+ and it came to around ... 222+100 or something like that

-sigh-

GRR ARGH!

that board sux! I have had 2 bad ones, cost me 45$ for 2 return shippings and restocking fee at newegg just to play with it. no thanks! I finally got a msi, works like a dream, except the sound card isn't envy.

I believe Frys in LA area is running a similar deal if not better, this weekend.

Too bad there isn't a fry's computer in Denver if that deal is happening.

They ought not to be charging your restocking fees for exchanged merchandise, oughtn't they?

Not if it's defective. Actually, it's illegal for them to charge restocking fees on defective products, Best Buy got hit with this not too long ago.

Definately illegal. They tried charging me one time for a defective product and the manager told me that it was their policy to charge a restocking fee and I said it didn't work. He then said that we'd have to pay the fee and wait until their "technical advisors" told him that it was legitimately broken, and I said that no I would be taking my money back now or I would just dispute the charge. He then threatened to call the police because I was trying to "steal" from them so I told him to call them, I'd gladly give them a statement.

Since then I boycott best buy unless I want to "try" a product with their try and return policy.

why does the site say 1mb

Might be the DTR version which has the 1mb. If not they messed up.

A64 3000+ comes in two flavors:
2.0ghz 512k L2 cache
1.8Ghz 1Mb L2 cache

If possible, I'd try to get the 2Ghz part since cache doesn't seem to play as big of a role on the A64 and it makes that part VERY competitive with 3200+ to where differences are negligible at best

I have this board and Chip. I got them from newegg.com and paid a lot more then this and it was worth it. At this price this is a steal. Great sound, ethernet, etc.... If you have been waiting this is the board and CPU to get

The 1.8 easily oc's to 2.0

Help me out here. I haven't upgraded in a while (my most current machine is a Tbred B 1600 oc'd to 2 ghz). I have it now with 2 256MB of DDR Ram. Do you need new ram for the Athlon 64's and their new mobos?

FYI this looks like OEM CPU and 3rd party heatsink/fan. Not the retail chip with amd heatsink/fan. Just something to keep in mind.

On the Ram Issue. You should be fine with the ram you have now, but keep in mind that you will be upgrading to a very nice processor. Do you really want the old ram from the Tbird to be slowing you down? This is unless you have some very nice pieces of ram. DDR2 wont be used by AMD this year, so DDR is what you and this board use. Look at what rating your ram is, e.i PC3200, 2700, etc. Good luck, hope this helps. If I made an error guys feel free to correct me.

how does the 1mb of the 64 overclock compared witht he 512kb version

512K version has a better chance of hitting higher clocks because it defaults 200MHz higher than the 1MB version.

Maybe you should have a talk with gameve.com because they charge a restocking fee also for defective returns!
