HOT! Amazon has Philips DVP642 for $63.94 - Free Ship

i dont know if the deal is still going on, but i think that at good guys they have that same one for 50 after 20 MIR.

I ordered this from Amazon like a month and a half ago and it still hasn't been shipped. The estimated ship range they gave me was like July 22 - Aug 5. So I doubt you'll be seeing it anytime soon if you order it now. I'm cancelling my order as soon as I find it in stock elsewhere.

I gave up on Amazon. I ordered from Best Buy for $10 more (+tax in MN) just to get it.

You can also look at Target B&M ($69.99), though mine hasn't had it the last two weeks. Walmart.com ($69.99) lists it as well, but not in stock.

My Walmart (Columbia, MD) has 'em for around $69 in the store. In Stock (last time I checked). Good deal.

Yeah, I just bought one from Wal-Mart about 2 days ago. Was $69+tax. We're plenty in stock. Haven't had time to use it yet, but I've heard it's great for the price!

The 642 is a great player for the price, and it's played everything I've tried on it. I got mine a few months ago for ~$70 at Walmart and love it.

Ordered mine August 5th, it shipped August 10th, arrived August 11th!

Came to $66.49 as no tax or shipping!

My trusty Apex AD1500 is going to be relocated to the spare bedroom and my Yamakawa 218 is going to become my MP3 player.

I'm a little worried (after spending $16 on a component video cable from Fry's) that the manual says progressive scan will only work with a progressive scan TV. I always thought the DVD player did the work to output to the TV, and that you didn't need a HDTV for progressive, just the cables?

The player is very thin (about an inch high!), wider than average, and not very deep, but the LCD display is tiny, I expect it to be useless from across the room, but who uses that anyway, my Yamakawa doesn't even have that!

This is a 642/37 July 2004, came with the 0531 firmware, the on-eject-7-8-9-OK-0 region-free routine makes it RCE free too 😉

I have a Divx it doesn't play without problems. There are 1/2 second audio dropouts on average every 30 seconds. But this same Divx won't even load on my Momitsu V880 DVD player. It plays fine in my PC when played from HD or from my Liteon 48x CDR/RW burner. It will not play from the same CDR in my NEC ND-2510a burner, but it does play from a DVD+R. I did the firmware upgrade today on the DVP642, but that didn't help things.

In case anyone is interested....

Ordered on Aug 16 when it was out of stock at Amazon. I was given an estimated delivery date range of September 21 - October 7 but it shipped on August 22 (today).

i recently bought one of these. I enjoy it, except that after awhile it was saying "No Disc" when i was loading a DVD.

I thought the DVD was bad because it was playing on my computer, so i tried a DVD that was working fine the day before and it was saying "No disc!"

I thought i had a defective player, but i realized that the dvd player was sitting at a very large angle, and when i put it on a flat surface, and ejected the dvd a whole bunc hof times, it started to work.

that's what i get for having a messy room 🙂

awesome dvd player btw

So far I've only tried 1 Xvid and when I put the CD in, it loads, starts playing but the picture is heavly pixelated and has intense colors (mainly Red and Yellow). As soon as I go to the System Menu and then just exit out of the menu, the picture is then perfect (DVD quality). Has anybody had this problem or knows what is causing it? FYI: The player has the latest firmware 0531.

The spec of the Xvid is :
Format.......: XviD
Videobitrate.: 951 kb/sec
Audiobitrate.: 128 kb/sec VBR
Runtime......: 88 mins
Resolution...: 528*288

One other thing, while there is a disc in the player, it makes a squeeky sound like if there was little mouse in the drive, its not load but its there, anybody else experience the same?

sign up for amazons platinum visa and get $30 gift certificate and apply it to the dvd player to get it down to $33.49. Link can be found a techy bargans in the coupon section.

The Target in the Galleria on San Felipe had two on sale for $70. I picked one up..

Just an FYI..

Just got mine in tonight. WOW... It really does play EVERYTHING I made a dvd with mpg 1,2, and 4, mp3 vbr and cbr, divx 3.11 and 5, and xvid. Plays em all.

I just need to rename some files to get cool with that 11 char listing limit.

Definitely worth every penny

It's still listed as OOS on Amazon.

I ordered mine on August 17th (while OOS). It shipped yesterday and is scheduled to arrive tomorrow. I didn't mind waiting the two weeks.

It's a great player, but I did a stupid thing to it. I set it to progressive mode while my TV can't display. Now, no video out on my TV monitor anymore. Does anyone know how to reset it to default settings? If I know the buttons to press to reach that, I could do it without a monitor; e.g. , menu => down 2 times => enter => etc...

What is the best support forum for this player? I had the chat support with Philips but got no answer on my question.

Thanks,

This is agreat player, and has played everything I have thrown at it.

There is only one issue I've seen no one has brought up. The player is a bit loud.

CLiu: I know there is a fix for it because mine came set to Progressive Scan out of the box (idiots). I can't find the fix, but you can check here:

They have tons of stuff, including what to do to upgrade your firmware, and how to set the region free settings.
