The deal is even a little better than that. They also reduce the usual monthly fee of $49.99 to $39.99 for the first six months. However, this does require a one-year commitment, and there's a hefty fee if you cancel before the year is up. If you're risk-adverse, they also have the non-bargain option of paying them $50 upfront and $49.95 monthly thereafter (note: no $75 Amex bonus either), with NO annual commitment.

I've been sniffing around this offer and may bite. The only problem is that DSL connect speeds are apparently somewhat iffy in my neighborhood. Verizon invited me to subscribe to their service, took my sign-up fee, sent me a gateway, then (without bothering to tell me) cancelled my account. Their explanation was "DSL isn't available in your neighborhood after all." Well, their line test suggested otherwise. I think Verizon simply refuses to sell the product if your connect speed isn't close to top speed. The DirectTV site suggests I would get download speeds of "up to 640 kps" to my phone number. Disappointing given that max speed is 1.5 Mps, but a whole lot better than the paltry 24 kps I get via modem right now.

Amex was great at stepping in and closing my account with Directv. Telocity was ran by a bunch of bozoes. However, after Hughes took over, service sucked big time. The only "help" was to have Directtv put the blame on SBC and the so called tech(f***)heads at SBC to blame Directv. Bad equipment included 2 defectived gateway and a dslam card.

Good luck to those who go with Directv.

Does anybody have any information on this promotion? Apparently it was pulled from the American Express site early. I signed up for DirecTV DSL expecting to get the $75 but now nobody knows anything about it. American Express claims it must have been a DirecTV promotion, they claim it must have been an American Express promotion. The link to the AmEx site no longer has the information. If anybody knows anything or received the $75 please post. Thanks.
