I just read a PC Magazine report from November (I think), stating that the Astra 3400 is the best budget scanner under $100. IT went up against 4 other scanners, and it was the fasted by far out of the group.

the printer is ok, unless you care about print quality....................leximark printers produce banding on color pic's------------the ink cart's cost more than the other brands, and for some reason their printers are rated decent quality by reviewers.............when in fact their quality sucks...............in my opinion...........

You need to change your thread to "$139.90 before MIR" as it is quite misleading.

Most of the banding problems are the result of not carefully aligning the print cartridge after installing a new one. At least that has been my experience on a 5700 and 3200 printers but I have not owned any of the Z series.

In my experience, Lexmark printers produce fine quality. However, it costs 3-4 times what it should to print with them. I ended up buying an HP because of that. The Lexmark in my price range cost $0.10 to print a B&W page, and with the HP it only costs $0.03 to print the same page!

If you're getting banding, clean your print heads. We've got 20 of them in our building and they make very clear pictures. Excellent printer, though a bit slow (not as slow as the Epsons, but still slow).

hey, im in the middle of upgrading. That rig below lasted me 4 years. upgraded RAM, video card, and hard drive, thats it. I knew i had to upgrade when quake was running 15fps at 320x280 with everything on low, haha....

I just picked up this deal, looks great to me, much better than my 600x600dpi Deskjet 682C, and i always wanted a scanner

wanted to print the Staples coupon, they have the hard drives 5 miles from my house, have no time the next few days to do this........lexmark crap, will never buy their product again.

Im seem to be the guy with the worst luck with hardware and software (W98SE has been the most unstable system I've ever run , installed it after all my friends told me that it was 'much more stable).....I no longer troubleshoot or try to fix anything if it takes more than 2 hrs., starting this week... already returning the netgear ethernet card from Circuit City too..........
