interesting deal....as someone who's successfully gotten OMax.com to do a pricematch, remember: you need to buy the item first, then request a pricematch. Not sure about doing it in-store. Hopefully OMax doesn't give you crap about Instant Rebate from CompUSA.

mmm

i was just about to post this, after finding out about the compusa deal.

good thing i did a search =D cuz now i found about the officemax deal =D

anyway, i was going to buy it from compusa before the officemax thing. if officemax pricematches =D with the mir =DDDDD... cuz i was going to buy it for $100 anyway.

if you dont wanna go to fatwa11et

compusa: 200 - 100 instant = 100
officemax: 200 - 20 instant - 30 mir = 150
with PM: (more complex)
200 - 20 = 180 sale price
180 - 100 = 80 difference
80*115% = 92 pricematched difference
180 - 92 = 88
78 - 30 mir = 58 =D

problems:
  • officemax may not pricematch compusa, wording includes "office super store"
  • rebate may not go through, or may have to jump some hurdles
  • if officemax pricematches, you may not get 115% difference

Sweet! I scored one at my local OfficeMax. One the back of their fliers, it says that they do 115% PM w/ office stores and regular PM w/ non-office stores.

99.99 + tax - 30.00 rebate = great price on a wireless router. :D
any coupons would be icing on the cake if they accept them.

Thanks, jimmyhaha

btw, this thing is real slim and small.....very cool :)

I called the 800 # and talk to 2 different CSR..

they told me the company has issue a memo that they would NOT mathc CompUSA price coz it's a sale item in Compusa
they only match non-sale item...

I guess u can try your luck at the B&M store.

What is a SALE ITEM?
here is the quote from their online pricematching policy:

<< We price match almost everything. We don't price match products and services provided by third party representatives in our stores or Web site (for example, tax preparation, payroll services and corporate logos), custom products, OfficeMax.com Specialty Shops items, OfficeMax.com Business Services, items sold at local or special events (e.g., grand opening, anniversary or liquidation sales) or products sold on Internet auction sites. We also don't price match taxes or typographical errors. >>

This was not an grand opening, anniversary or liquidation sales and we have an ad to prove it. The only thing is that they may take their own rebate in consideration and pricematche it down to $129.99-$30 rebate in which case I will have to say no(especially since Ive already landed one router at B&M for $99 before rebate)

Good news about this router is the latest firmware update resolved the need for resetting the router every day or so. I'm still not sold on the switch part of this router, but the internet server works pretty good.

I've setup the router wired to my desktop, and I have a Orinoco PC card on my laptop. It shows that the signal is excellent, but how do I set up sharing of the Internet. Do I have to install the software that came on the Belkin CD, onto my laptop?

can anyone help?

i got the PM at officemax. no difference =\

anyway

I set up the router with my card.

I changed the default ssid and junk for the wireless. I still have not gotten encryption to work. I dont know if it is the card or the router, prolly my card's software package.

I used the mac address verification, so i entered the mac addresses for my nics and my wireless card. too me about 30 mins to do everything since i spent like 10 mins troubleshooting cuz of the encryption problem.

--

to get the wireless to communicate, you have to setup the SSID (like a workgroup but wireless), the channel (default is 11). how to do so for your card depends on what you have. I dont have the orinco.

you do not need the software that comes with the CD at all.

Are you using Auto supplied or Static WEP? I have one of these, and because of security I use static wep. My PCMCIA card is an Orinoco. What OS are you using?

It sounds like you have a wireless NIC with your notebook and this NIC is getting the signal from your desktop computer. The Belkin router is supplying the Internet to your desktop computer (and any other computer connected by network cable to the router) so in your case, Internet sharing has nothing to do with the router. You really need a wireless router, which I'm sure Orinoco makes. Without a wireless router, your desktop needs to "share" the internet connection with your notebook computer. Windows XP has Internet Connnection Sharing (ICS) built in so you can try this, or any one of many software sharing solutions.
