If I needed class 10 I'd probably go with the SanDisk Ultra @ Amazon for ~$25 shipped. I agree that class 10 is probably worth the price bump for most, but if you don't need class 10 the OP is a really good deal!

This is not meant as a thread crap, just providing my experience with the G.Skill class 6 cards. I have the 16gb version (G.Skill, microSD, class 6). It was tested with H2testw with a writing speed of 6.5 MB/s and a reading speed of 18.9 MB/s.

It meets class 6 specifications, but just barely. If you're looking for a card with fast writes, I'd pass on this one.

Class 4 and 6 cards may be superior to class 10 cards if you are using them in a phone. Isn't that where most microSD cards are used?

it's not so much the class rating, but how the specific card does in random access.

I don't have the CrystalDiskMark numbers in front of me, but the G.Skill card does respectably well in random reads and writes. Although inferior to a good Sandisk or Samsung card, it's significantly better than most budget cards (i.e. Patriot). Most cheap microSD cards are abysmal for mobile OS use, as you mentioned.

If I recall correctly, a few reviewers did receive DOAs and as the BF price of the Mobile Ultra 16GB card went as low as $18, this is less of a hot deal than it was just a few months ago.

It's a real shame that the class system for these cards doesn't say anything definitive about the read performance. I used to like how some vendors would say something like "150x" speed regarding the read performance, but you just don't see that anymore.

Actually, the class system may perversely lead to slower and slower reading performance, because the vendor just slaps a class 6 or class 10 writing performance, barely meeting that metric, and have no incentive to provide faster read performance.

They should update it to have 2 metrics, one for the write and one for the read. E.g., class 6/50 (where 50 is the read performance).
