It doesn't say which brand it is, so who knows what you might get. Only thing I can read from the picture is that the last 2 letters are ia, I think. Might be an Insignia. Someone want to call them up?

thats been outposts standard price for this set, and this set has gotten pretty good reviews overall and i was seriously considering purchasing it at 899 in store. but i have a feeling there are better deals to be had. on black friday it was 799 and frys has had some regular sales for 899 on a few different occasions.

I've been looking at this one for awhile now and almost got it last week. The good thing about the outpost price is free shipping, but does anyone know anywhere ONLINE to get this for a better price (since it seems to have been less at different times)?

If you positively HAVE to have an LCD TV, this isn't bad.

The drawbacks:

1) Sh*tty (almost to the realm of non-existent) customer service. The price is low for a reason.

2) The resolution is 1280x720. Some people think this is FINE for a PC desktop stretched to 27". I submit that if you took a 17" 4:3 LCD and stretched it to 27" - things wouldn't look so incredibly hot.

3) Sooner or later, the realm of 1920x1080 23" LCD PC displays like the Apple HD Cinema Display and HP L2335 will comingle with the 1280x720/768 markets, and these panels will look like crap in comparison. The only reason it's not happening is trendy Gen-Xers are still buying up overpriced LCD TVs with cheap panels.

Unfortunately, none of the aforementioned panels have HDCP decoding built-in, effectively neutering their ability to be long-term HDTVs.

I have a Syntax 30" which is pretty much the same unit, even shares the same case, just the panel is smaller on the 27". It is really not that bad as a monitor or a TV at least for the price. It is certainly not close to a Sharp 30" but it only cost about 1/3 as much.

Those are LCD Projection TVs - light cast through a LCD matrix, not individual pixel engines on-screen. With LCD projection TVs you get the inconvenience (and added cost) of having to place it so you can get around back to replace the bulb when it goes out.

FYI I have the 30" Syntax LCD (1280x768) and luv it. However, since it is a 16:10 set, when watching HD material (16:9) there are bars on top and bottom so i'm probably getting only a 28.5" HD image which is not much more than the 27" 16:9 tv would give you. So you may want to save your money and get the 27"

compared to pany, samsung and sharp this is a pitiful lcd. cheap. NOT inexpensive for what you get. most striking is the poor contrast and washed out blacks and an overall haze in side-by-side comparisons. is it just me?

I have the $27", and paid $1500 shipped for it (which was a good deal at the time). Comments:

1. Since the 27" uses the same case as the 30", the bezel looks silly since it's like 3 inches wide.
2. Standard definition sattelite signals have a lot of artifacts. HDTV signals and DVD look amazing.
3. The colors are stunning with HDTV. Out of the box, there is too much red, but this is easily fixed in the settings.
4. The remote and on-screen interface are terrible.
5. The speakers being removable is a rare feature in LCD TVs, and the reason I bought this panel. Who would pay a grand+ for a TV and use $10 included speakers with it?
6. It randomly shuts off every few hours, invariably while the wife is watching 'Desperate Housewifes', causing her to go ballistic.
7. The blacks aren't even close to my EDTV Plasma (Panasonic). However, plasmas have burn-in problems and are unsuitable for PC use.

Overall, this panel is far from perfect. However, for the price nothing comes close. Competing panels are 2-3x the price and are only marginally better. I wouldn't have bought this for our primary TV, but it is great to hang in the kitchen to watch the 'Daily Show' while cooking dinner.
