You can get sunrocket to give you the same price with a pricematch. Sunrocket has been offering the 199 for two years off and on for a few years.

I've got ViaTalk... It's not perfect but for ~ $10/month it's pretty good.

FYI -- Unless ViaTalk changed their plans you can only get a refund within the first 30 days. After that it's 50% of your account balance. SunRocket will refund your remaining balance regardless of when you cancel.

My family has two phone lines which we use pretty regularly. One line is ViaTalk and the other Sunrocket. We've had them for almost a year now and both have been as reliable as our cable service. I like ViaTalk's website better for configuring the service and their support has been perfect. Sunrocket hasn't had any issues either. If I had to pick one, I'd do some research into which company was more likely to last two years. If anyone want's a referal for ViaTalk, which I think saves you money (it will save me money ;-) ), PM me and I'll email you the link.

I'm impressed. They have good reviews on DSLREPORTS.

http://www.dslreports.com/gbu/

I have had VoicePulse for 2 years and like them, but I pay $14.99/month. I have the basic plan, but we do go over slightly sometimes. It is still far better and cheaper than Bellsouth. With Bellsouth $22/mo, I can't even call across town or it is long distance and I can't get naked DSL, another evil story. With VoicePulse I can call the eastern half of Florida from south of Orlando to Key West as a unlimited local call. The only problems I have had are (1) when power goes out in hurricanes and my UPS goes dead, my phone is dead (2) I have accidently unplugged the power supply under my computer desk and didn't know the phone was dead or accidently unplugged the phone jack splitter out of the phone box connected to the network.

I think I'm one of those positive reviews on DSLReports. I second the suggestion to put everything on a UPS. The cable modem, router, Gizmo and phone are all on their own UPS and stay up longer than the the power has been out over the past year. I'd also suggest that if you ever do reboot things and have an issue, to startup in that order - modem, router, then gizmo.

Heard Good Things About ViaTalk...

Think Vonage Is More Solid Overall, Though Probably More Expensive.

There's another possible deal on this, if you click on the coffee cup a coupon code pops up that gives $40 off. It says for only the first 100 users but who knows, it might work for you as well as it's been up for a few days now.

I've had one viatalk line for about 7 months now and use it for my home office backup line. I put about 200-300 minutes on it /month, nothing heavy but it's always works fine for me. Call quality is fine, I think I've had 1 outage that lasted about 15 minutes since I got service. I do fax quite a bit over the line without issue. I think their service is great.

I just picked up a second line with this promotion. I couldn't pass it up, there is a

One big difference between Viatalk & Sunrocket is that Viatalk had a pile of cash before getting into VoIP, whereas SR needs investors for their cashflow. Viatalk is owned by Hostrocket which is a hosting provider.

If anyone wants to try Viatalk please PM me as I have a referral link.

I posted this in the Vonage deal thread. I'm just going to paste it here as it also applies. Oh, and since I've also got ViaTalk I'd appreciate anyone letting me refer them as well... :)

From the Vonage Thread:

I had Vonage for about 6 months and I've had Sunrocket 2 times and currently use ViaTalk. Here's my quickie review...

Vonage -- The good: Best reliability and voice quality (near perfect). The bad: Expensive, fewer features than other VOIP providers, didn't pass outbound CallerID name (the deal breaker for me as my calls often looked like spammers)

SunRocket -- The good: Lowest price, best contract terms, free hardware, great features. The bad: Very unstable and customer support is pretty much non-existent.

ViaTalk -- The good: Low price, great features, very good voice quality, more reliable than SunRocket but not as good as Vonage. The bad: You have to pay for the hardware, only 50% credit if you cancel after 1 month.

** Keep in mind this is in my experience. I'm sure others have had good/bad experiences with these companies. I'm just giving my experiences here.

I've been using ViaTalk for about 8 months -- all seems good.

At first, my cordless phones wouldn't ring, but their tech support department changed a setting in my adapter and they started working.

The only other problem I had is that every once in a while, my phone service would go out (cable modem's fault, not ViaTalk's), and their voicemail system would answer -- which I didn't want to happen. A quick note to their tech support staff and the voice mail was permanently turned off.

Also note that TiVo style systems typically don't work over VOIP (ok, I know some people get it to work though...)

I've been very happy with their servce. I dropped Packet8.com to get ViaTalk.

Your question is too generic. You should specify zip code first than ISP than router etc. There are many factors.

Well i asked the question over at dsl reports of who has switched from vonage to viatalk and how happy they were. They overwhelming response was positive.
http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,17564615

So today i ordered viatalk. Pretty good deal for $199. Just to let you know they do charge an activation fee and a shipping fee for your router but heck im going to pay about what i pay in taxes each month for vonage to viatalk for the service. Hopefully they don't oversell there service and quality goes to the crapper though.

Wow. I just got mine set up. I went with the BYOD, and went to voxilla to set up the PAP2. Setup took all of about a minute and I was making calls. I had one issue, that was router related. Submitted a ticket, and literally within a minute I had a response asking for some more info. And in less than 5 minutes, problem was solved. Initial impressions are important, and ViaTalk has done well so far! Call clarity is great, no noticable hiccups yet.

I you want to get ViaTalk, I have a referral # as well, so PM me if you want to.

I'm on packet8. They have pretty awesome quality. I've been with them for 2 years now. It's less expensive than Vonage, but the quality is higher than most of the services I've seen. As for SunRocket, the quality was inferior with significant echo compared to my packet8 lines.

I'm not sure about Viatalk....

There are 3 primary factors in VOIP systems. 1. Your connection to the VOIP provider 2. The VOIP provider's connection to you 3. The CODEC their system uses

Of course, you can get into hardware issues, and a lot of other things...but, if you have a good connection to the internet. A cheap VOIP provider might not have enough bandwidth to support peak hours of operation to support thier customers. The other issue is how well the hardware works with the CODEC and how well it is tuned. This keeps garbled sounds and echoes from occurring. Packet8 sounds like a high-quality cellphone to me with some whitenoise built-in. Other VOIP systems don't have so much, so it makes it difficult to have a conversation until you get used to it. It's especially annoying when you have to repeat yourself....

I signed up last Thursday (1/4) The package arrived yesterday (1/11). I have NEVER had anything work so well out of the box than this sytem. I have cable internet, so I went outside and disconnected my phone line from the house (as instructed on a web site for setting up all your phones to work with VOIP), came back in, plugged the phone adapter in, connected the ethernet and phone lines, and magic happened! All phones work, all ring when a call comes in, and the clarity is the best I've had in a long time. I must have gotten lucky on this one. Viatalk is my new best friend!

I am a very satisfied SunRocket person....my renewal is right around the corner...like next week. Has anyone been successful in getting SunRocket to match the Viatalk offer?
