I wandered into Office Depot today to look for the Gyromouse that was on sale and found this. It was $199 marked clearance for $49.88 but ran up for $24.88. This is a pen type PDA. Contains 2MBs of memory. It has this neat feature where it can scan text and you can put it on your computer. As a college student this is great for notes. One problem is that you need to IR the data to the comp. I found that you can IR with Palms so IR to my Visor then hot sync to my comp. Woo hoo instant notes!

BTW, I am not sure what the sku is. I have this big long number on my receipt (not the usual 6 digits). #069731100000.

Here's a copy of my receipt: (don't laugh at my other purchases, it was my lunch and my Office Depot was nice enough to carry something edible)

Here's more info on the pen? PDA? whatever it is:

No no, you see, the doritos are made of corn, and corn is a vegetable ! That looks like the typical college student lunch...or sometimes breakfast....:)

I just stopped by my local OD. Not in stock. Not even listed in their computer. He says they used to carry it a long time ago.

take a look here at FatWallet . Take a look at the 1st 2 posts. I find it amusing that they are the same exact ones as here. I think Mysterie and attention are the same person (that likes to pat themselves on the back). Oh well, I wish I could have found this deal at OD.

Do you think I can Price Match With Staples (On the Doritos)?

I guess it depends on the CSR.

With your statement you qualify for being a "senior member" here at analtech.

The OD in West LA didn't have them either. Did anybody find one in their local OD and if yes, pleeeease post the location and availability...

Garlicboy, I believe attention here is attention there. I have always been Mysterie, I can be found at many places. I migrated from here to Fatwallet and like to post and read from both.

I got the last one in La Verne. I know Monclair, City of Industry and Monrovia in California has none.

Couldn't find it or anything else worthwhile on clearance. I think the place was cleaned out over the weekend because it was a little sparse. I did see the cute cashier that always flirts with me, which was nice.

Oh, hot deal: $3.99 for one of those big tins of 3 flavors of popcorn! :D

Hi all,
I had an assistant manager at my local office depot do a search on the upc number in the above posted receipt, and came up with this SKU #269401. He found me one at a store 20 miles away, and although its a display model, it had all the manuals and software with it. Good luck to all...

Just a heads up on these scanner pens.
I had one that was 129 from buy.com and returned it after 2 days.
They also sell them at CompUSA, here is a link on buy.com http://www.us.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=10243835&loc=101

These things frickin suck man.
They scan semi-ok but are so slow and awkward that its faster to type or write it into your pda.

I tried business cards and it was a no go.

The only thing that seemed to scan semi-ok was black text on white paper, and it was slow as hell.
You get a hand cramp from holding the pen funny, and then after you scan one line, you have to wait for it to slowly appear on the lcd screen to see if it scanned ok.

Its not like you can just scan away and it will be ok, it is slow and innacurate.

Honest to god POS if you ask me

Thanks Commondog for the honest review. I was about to jet out of work to get that pen. However you remimded me of those stupid cross tablets. Cool Idea but bunk as junk to begin with. Thanks for saving me 26 BUcks!

I don't know if all OD's are the same but mine was in a enclosed glass case where they stick all the sound cards, visdeo cards, hard drives, CDRWs, etc.

BTW I kinda agree with commOdog on the fact that they are slow and a bit hard to use, but when my teacher says open note test I would love to get all that info down with minimal effort. At $100 or $199 I would not even look at this thing twice but at $25 it seemed useful.

Unfortuneatly, my OD sucks (must be under new management). I thought the one I got was new, but I thought it was funny there was a hair stuck to the box. I opened it up and the batteries were in the pen and dead. There was some odd pixelation on the LCD screen and only 220K of memory was remaining. I asked the guy how could this be new hoping to get a discount off for it being open and such and he gave me a lame answer that they must of opened it for a customer, since they don't keep display model boxes. Sure, the guy wouldn't even give me a new set of batteries. Oh well to the manufacturer I go. I used like this store too, real honest, but all the nice people are nowhere to be seen, probably left.
