just came back from the Benihana @ City of Industry.
They DO have the dollar sushis, but appearently they bumped up the price for the $1.5 from $1.5 to $1.75.
Also, note that it is SELECTED items for $1. not all sushis are for $1.
the cheapest handrolls i saw was for $1.95. I had a little trouble communicating with the waitress, asking her
about the $1 hand rolls cuz they didnt' have any of those.

on a personal note...
the sushi wasn't so great. the rice was kinda leaning on the dry side and a bit clumpy too....
but for $1...i can't complaint much

I remeber going to todai back in the day when I lived in San Diego(9 years ago?) and the one on 3rd Ave(too bad the food isn't good anymore, it used to be great quality, very small(maybe 5-10 tables, so the service was always good).

Todai is still good for me during my birthday ;) If you want to find people with the same birthday (not year), Todai is the place to go :D

Ok, just an update & clarification:

I believe the special is only valid Mon-Fri during normal store hours, not in combination with other specials. Call your local benihanas (www.benihanas.com, store locator) to confirm before showing up.

You can sit at the bar or at the tables near the bar, but not in the main dining area (where the chefs chop stuff up for you on your table grill)

As far as the sushi quality at the Buffalo Grove (Chicago) location: I found it to be excellent. Maybe the rolls were a little on the extra large side, but the rice was perfect and they were well done. Shrimp rolls in particular were to die for. The service was quick and courteous. Waitresses were cute.

I got 36 rolls (for about $15) and had a hard time with the last few. I think the chef was having a bit of a joke seeing whether a 170 pound guy could put away that much sushi and made them bigger than normal. My cow orkers were suitably awed.

I'd go check out the Denver location (104th, right?) but I'm still recuperating from the gluttony in Chicago. Doubt I'd be up for any more food of any kind until I fly back on Monday.
