Is there a way to make the hosts table reference another hosts table on our network?

This is to help us update everybodies hosts table in the office at once(after the inital setup), rather than having to do it everytime we need to add/remove something.

Do you not have a local dns server? A logon script that copies the hostfile from a share would be the easiest way, it could also be pushed via group policy, but if you have an AD domain, there's really no point.

You want to set up a DNS or WINS server, but I can't find a decent howto on google. Kinda funny that searching for "WINS" + "howto" turns up a bunch of Samba pages. Maybe WINS has been replaced, we don't run Windows servers anymore.

hehe funny that is probably the exact question that started the development of DNS back in the day.
