HOSTS file for an IP dual-stack (v4/v6) OS?

How does the HOSTS file work in Win7 64-bit, when you have IPv6 connectivity? I noticed that the sites that I have blocked in my HOSTS file showed up at the bottom of my window while browsing this forum, when I have IPv6 connectivity. To me, that indicates that the IPv4 site-blocking via the HOSTS file is not working. Which, I guess, makes sense if this laptop is preferring IPv6 in my web browser. (Going "around" the IPv4 hosts file.)

This seems to be a significant downside with IPv6, if you cannot block out domains easily.

You can put both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses in the HOSTS file on computers that support both addressing systems as long as the IPv6 addresses are not link-local (privately assigned or non-public) addresses.
