I am new to webservers and I am getting ready to set up my first Apache web server. I have a domain that I want to use. After I register the domain name, how do I get this domain to point towards my IP? What DNSs am I going to have to set up the domain with?

Thanks for the help.

Where do you host your DNS server ?
They require you to put two DNS server when registering a domain ?

If you haven't, you could register in register.com, they will host
the dns for free and you can do online domain management.
In there you can configure where your domain is going to point.
ie:
xxx.com --> xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (ip address)
mail.xxx.com --> xxx.com

I am going to go through DirectNIC.com. Am I simply going to leave the default name servers with them? I think it is going to be pretty easy, I am just unsure on what to do.

1. Register domain while leaving the default name servers with DirectNIC.com.
2. Configure my domain to point towards my IP.
3. Set up my webserver.
4. Sit back and enjoy the hits.

I'm not really familiar with directnic.com, but if they can be your default dns and you can manage your domain using directnic.com, then it should straight forward.

Some company will only let you park a domain. It does not let you manage your domain though. It will just point to some template pages.

Verio also host domain for you with a similiar domain manager. 15 bucks a year for the domain registration and hosting. I enjoy their service!

DirectNIC will let me host my domain on their name servers. I think it is going to be pretty straightforward.
