Hosting My Own Site

Hi,
I wanted to register my own domain name and also host it from my home. I have windows 2003 server. the problem is that i contacted my ISP(Sprint Broadband) and they said i couldn't have my own domain name using their service. I forgot what they told me. But is there an ISP that would allow me to do this or how would i host my own server. The primary reason is that i want to setup my own mail system and learn how this works. I found a good site called FUIDANET but they told me i have to get consent from my ISP. Any help i would greatly appreciate it.

you can set up a mailserver inside your network, and use it to go out and get your mail off the web. That won't be a violation of the TOS, if you do it correctly. It will just be another client as far as they can tell.
You can use it and learn on the LAN side from that.

Your ISP probably assumed you were going to run a web server, which most ISP's don't like. If you are just doint a mail server, you would probably be fine, but I don't think you need a domain if you are just messing around.
