Hosting a site from your PC?

Is it possible to host a site from a home PC (with a cable modem). What software/config needs to be se up?

I think this might be better suited posted in one of the other forums. What operating system do you run? If you run Win2K or WinXP you should be able to install IIS or it might probably be installed already. Go to www.microsoft.com/iis for more information. There is also a couple of other free software packages that are not as hard to configure as IIS, just go do a search online. If you are running a dynamic IP it might have some problems, but there might be some ways to get around it.

Be warned though that if you get a lot of traffic, it'll be slow as hell, both on your end while browsing and on the users end...

Also remember that your cable provider may not be too happy with you doing this....

Yes it is absolutely possible. I am running my site below from my home machine. I am using a Linux machine with apache as the incoming and outgoing gateway. I am doing this because IPTables in Linux provides a good firewall.

The download speed (for users browsing my site) is quite slow because of the cable modem, but it is possible.
