Host files on Win2kPro

I am trying a simple ad blocker--the host file. I have a NT4ws computer at work and if I put 127.0.0.1 and the ad server name in this host file, I get a nice, blank ad window and pages load great.
I have tried this on my home computer (2kpro) and nothing changes.
What am I missing?
I checked the tcp/ip settings and they appear to be similar. W2k should still use the host file--right?

Thoughts/experiences? Thanks

Editing my host file works. Since I now have about 4000 lines (99% are of the blocking variety), it takes a good 5 minutes for services.exe to give control back to me after editing the file.

I also use a lil freebie called FastNet (was FastNet99, might now be FastNet 4.0). Works like a charm in Win2K.

Right--I have the file, but it does not work.
This is a sample line

127.0.0.1 rd.yahoo.com

This should keep the banner ads at Yahoo from displaying, but they continue. Should I do anything with lmhosts?
