host a webserver with dynamic ip address

Interesting. I'm still not sure this is worth the security risk to the home network given the low cost of hosting with somebody else who assumes most of the risks.

I've used dyndns.com for 2 years now, no problems, and I love it saves me from remembering my ip all the time.

i've used many dynamic name services in the time i've had high speed. very useful!

dhs.org (although they turned into a pay service after a while)

now using dyndhs (i think). I can use a real domain to point to my ip..which i like!

Agreed.

With web hosting as cheap as $20/yr, I'd never host it off my ISP connection.

Not to mention it's against your Terms Of Service.

* Bandwidth, Data Storage and Other limitations - Use of the Comcast network infrastructure in a manner that (i) exceeds the then current bandwidth, data storage or other limitations on the Comcast High-Speed Internet service or (ii) puts an excessive burden on the limitations of the network. Examples include: Using the Comcast network to run a Web-hosting server or any other commercial enterprise.

all you need is a decent web server (apache) and a stable box (unix or linux) and you should encounter no problems.

however, be careful to not violate your user agreement with your isp provider. And if you do, well, don't get caught 😉
