This time it's not an injury though. He rapidly spiked a fever of ~103.5F (had to put the F in there just to get you metric nazi's panties in a bunch and not confuse the hell out of you) over the course of about 45 minutes. He spiked a fever last night as well, 102.8F, but that was over the course of the day and it broke early this morning where he was fine for most of the day. Today it's different though, he's got the chills and his extremities are rather cold, whereas yesterday he was roasting all over.

Nighttime emergencies suck for so many reasons. Now to find something to keep myself occupied until the wife calls with another update for me.

Occasional cough. He's had a mild runny nose for the last 2 weeks (we all had colds that ran the house). We only took him to the hospital because of the odd and high spike in the fever, and because there's no where else to go/call at 10:30pm.

What's worse is that the trip was a waste. They swabbed for the flu, which came back negative. They also did a chest xray for some reason. All over the course of about 5 hours, they did nothing for him. Finally my wife gave up and brought him home, at which point they decided to give him some motrin (which I could just have easily done at home). I guess a nearly 104F fever that spiked from nowhere in 45 minutes isn't a big deal on a 19 month old for doctors to give a shit about. All I get out of this is a still sick kid and another bill from the hospital.

I'm going to have a talk with my son to see if I can convince him to only get sick during normal business hours from now on.

Most likely they're trying to eliminate croup. The best way is with a chest film, and look for a "steeple" in the throat

did he get vaccinated in any way within the last 3 weeks? Our guys get mild fevers about half the time after. Haven't had a 104F = hospital though.

Nope. That most definitely isn't possibly the issue.

Croup hmm... time to go web trolling.

I feel for you and hope everything goes well.

My son (6 years old) had a mild fever (102 degrees) that lasted 2 days followed by a cold and then nasty cough which lasted 2 weeks.

He's all better now and he's getting H1N1 shot on Thursday..

You all must be amped up on caffeine from lunch or something. Watts the matter with you all today? I'm going to have to resist the temptation to crack jokes though, lest someone gets grounded.

H1N1/Seasonal Flu I'm assuming?

I know how you feel though, have a 5 month old myself and he's literally been sick at least a full 2 out of those 5 months all combined.

Those first 8-12 months freaking suck. Especially if/when they go to daycare. I think my daughter was sick more than she was healthy. And when she wasn't sick she was teething. Which almost was worse than being sick.

Wait till roto/nora virus goes around the day care and you get yourself a nice crispy case of that!

My son used to get bronchialitis along with one or two ear infections when he was a baby/toddler. Seemed like he was constantly sick when he was younger but he's 7 years old now and I swear he hasn't had more than the sniffles for the past few years...knock wood.
