I see those places packed with people all aged. ANyone care to explain how whole thing works, how much is minimium

I use to go to the track quite often in California, so I'll tell you what I know about it here...

The minimum bet on a win, place, or show, which is a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place bet, is $2. Any of the combos has a minimum of $1.
The thing you have to understand the most about hore racing is that the odds and payout are determined by the people and where th emoney is.

A quick example.. Say 10 people are betting on Horse A to win, and 1 person bets on B to win. Everyone bets $1. If horse A wins, they each get $0.10. IF horse B wins, he gets their 10 dollars. But of course the tracks tkae their share of money, but thats the idea.

Its a lot of fun for people who dont gamble much since the low bet minimums and Show bets make for lots of easy, small wins...

Do you mean the different types of bets or what?

Win means you win if the horse comes in 1st.
Place means you win if the horse comes in 1st or 2nd.
Show means you wint if the horse comes in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd.

An Exacta is picking the 1st and 2nd horse in order.
A Trifecta is picking the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in order.
A Superfecta is picking 1st-4th in order.

And then their are the bets that parlay from one race to another and terms that are used to include certain combinations of horses. If you are new to this, stick to win, place, and show bets.

i went to a horse race once at the monmouth racetrack in NJ. i lost and said the hell with this. i don't get it. apparently tho... its really huge in HK too.
