Horrific luck and stupidity

I got in on the 27" panasonic deal from amazon a couple of weeks ago, and just received the tv today. The shippers came really early in the morning, when I was barely awake. I was starry eyed as the shippers came through the bottom floor of our apt where one of my roomate's cat roams around. I guess the cat startled the two shippers as they were carrying in the tv, and cause one of them to temporarily lose his balance, and drop the tv box on the ground. Except he didn't completely drop the tv from where he was, but rather lower the box enough so that it touched the ground. I didn't think much about it at the time, because it didn't seem to be a significant drop, and there weren't any external damages visible on the box. I was just eager to get them moving along, so I can open the box, so I signed their slip, and they went on their way. I opened the box and took a look at the tv, and realized that it was significantly too heavy for me to take out myself. So I planned to wake for one of my roomates to come back and help me take it out. Later in the day, I went to the tv again to look at it, and noticed to my dismay that the tv screen had completely caved in, and detached from the frame!!!! I didn't see it before because the screen was a dark color, and its completely unnoticable in the box that the screen actually attached, until one touches it and notice that it is not where it should be. Anyways, amazon has a great policy of completely giving up responsibility of the tv once you sign for the delivery, so I can't get a return or replacement through them. The delivery company seem to have no liability at all for the shipment. Seems the only course of action is to go through panasonic and the 1 year warranty, which I'm on the 12th day of. But their warranty does not cover damage through shipment. So in the worse case, I get a $260 and 90lb paper weight.

Sounds like something you should be taking up with the shippers, not Panasonic. In any case, sorry to hear about that and good luck!

How is this "luck"? For the shippers? :)

Really sorry to hear that...hopefully you get everything solved, otherwise, take it up to the roof and launch it. ^_^

1. You pick up the phone and dial the number of your credit card company
2. You tell them that there is no way, not even under the fear of death, that you'll pay the bill
3. Once they mail you a letter, you sign it to indicate that you do indeed refuse to pay
4. You wait for Amazon to contact you and tell you that they're sending a replacement

At this point your credit card company will negotiate with Amazon. They want your money, and so does Amazon. The only way they'll both get what they want is if you get what you want: a replacement. So you'll get it.

You're welcome. You'd be surprised how well this works if you make it ABSOLUTELY CLEAR to the credit card company that the only way they're getting that money is over your dead body. Tell em that in those exact words. If they give you any excuses, say "It's not my problem. I will not pay. End of discussion."

Amazon.com's policy regarding large tvs is that as soon as you sign for the delivery you cannot return the tv. You're suppose to check for damages and refuse delivery if there is damage. Of course I did not know this policy when I received the delivery, and signed for it right away when I noticed that there weren't any external damages.

I called panasonic regarding this matter, and they mentioned that their warrenty does not cover damage caused by shipping, but they gave me a number for a repair shop the assess the damage. I'm suppose to get back to them after the damage is assessed.

I can also try another course of action. I bought the tv using blue. I know american express has good consumer protection policies. Is it worth it to try to get a replacement through amex rather than going through the repair service of panasonic?
