Horrific 4 car crash kills 3 (Portlanders avoid I-5 South)

It was near Wilsonville? I thought they had installed wire some time ago to prevent crossovers like that?

Figures; the only area for dozens of miles that doesn't have a solid median. Someone really needs to get a bill on the 2004 ballot to have ODOT put in a solid median down the whole of I-5(or at the very least, everything between Portland and Eugene).

and raise taxes while they're at it 😉

Is that a long stretch of road where people would potentially fall asleep behind the wheel ?
No, it's not particularly long or sleepy, but instead very busy. The problem is usually with drivers paying attention to something else, following too close, etc.

PS Ross, they're going to raise taxes either way; we might as well get something out of it; consider it a hot deal 😀

Yeah it's not that long of a stretch of road. There was possible vidence of ALCOHOL which if true explains why they crossed the median into oncoming traffic.

Wish I would have known about this earlier - I got stuck in the middle of it. They're herding everyone off I-5 SB onto I-205 NB. It's a big mess.

there is no divider whatsoever???

on a freeway??

Yep, no divider here on I-85 in Georgia from 40 miles north of Atlanta to South Carolina, we get crossover Fatality wrecks in this 100 mile stretch like crazy, at least one every other week. Feds, State and DOT probably use it for Population control.

Where this happened, the only divider(if you could call it that) is basically a giant hedge. The NB and SB lanes are a good deal apart around there. There are also three or four gaps in the "hedge" where the OSP love to sit and catch speeders, so it would actually be pretty easy (obviously) to cross over into oncoming traffic. You would just have to determined to do it or drunk. I like to think even a bad driver that lost control could stop before crossing all the way over.
