Horrid Radeon performance in CS

I just bought a 64MB Radeon retail and while I was playing CS, I noticed there were horizontal lines appearing in the textures when I moved/strafed by them really fast. I used to have a Voodoo3 3500 and didn't have any of these problems and the image quality was great.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about, or should I post some screen shots?

Any Radeon - CS players here that can help me out? Thanks!

Edit: Oh, and I'm running Win2K, w/ a full reformat before installing the card so there were no "left over" drivers from my previous card. I installed it on Win98 and the same problem persisted. I also have a Abit BE6-II.

Which drivers are you using? Even though it's a new retail card, the CD that was provided with it could be an older driver version.
I noticed some tearing in CS with earlier drivers, but with the newest avialable "supported" driver I don't see any. Map's: dust, assualt, italy, ect.

<<get the newest via drivers here 1429
I'm running an Abit BE6-II, I thought my motherboard wasn't VIA?

<<install directx8a from here>>
I am currently running DirectX 8.0a. On the download page it says ver 8.0a but when I go into system info and directX tool it says version 8.0. Dunno......

<<get the lastest w2k radeon drivers here>>
Do I have to uninstall my old drivers? If I do, how?

Edit: I DLed the latest drivers, but when I try to run the setup.exe file, an error comes up that says:

_INS5176._MP.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log has been created.

I've tried redownloading it, rebooting then trying again, nothing works......

install them, eat two cookies and call us in the morning
yummy. 🙂

ooops sorry about the via drivers thing i wasn't paying attention.

ok the setup.exe on the latest drivers is broken so you have to go to device manager and find your video card and right click choose properties and update driver. point the folder where you downloaded the drivers.

Whenever I use my Creative Annihilator with Counter-Strike, I can't see any decals when running under D3D mode (with DirectX8.0). I have to switch over to OpenGL mode to be able to see all the bullet holes / sprays.

Any ideas why? My friend's Hercules Geforce has the same problem.

OldFart , I use D3D because of the problems with lock-ups I was having with my Asus 6800 pure geforce card. Have'nt tried it with my Radeon though.

Well try it!!!!!!

I get the same dithering problems also, It's very easy to see the line in de_dust, does get pretty annoying, but I got used to it.

Radeon runs HL: CS like crap... (still very playable) Quake 3 runs alot smoother for me. I dunno why.

Yes, guess I'll give OpenGL a try, QIII always ran great with the Asus 6800 I was suprised that I was having lock-ups in CS/OpenGL, I'll try it out tonite, i'll test it for stabillity for several hours😉

I'll get some screen shots up as soon as I can, then you guys can see what I mean. 🙂

Edit: Alright, I tried taking screen shots, but everytime I pushed the button the lines would line up and everything would look fine for a split second while it was taking the picture. Here's a link to a normal shot:

What it's supposed to look like

But since I can't take a picture of all the lines disjointed, try and imagine it. It just bascialyl looks like all the vertical lines aren't matched up at specific points, so at different intervals on the box it looks like you have horizontal lines where the vertical lines break. Does anyone understand what I'm saying? *sigh*
