rig in the sig.

i changed from a x800 xt to an x1800 xl overclocked.

im getting worse bf2 performance. its the only game.
every other game is GREAT

i get like 30 frames some times during artillerties or alot of ppl. and i only get high frames when im dead and looking at the sky

i can get like 50 when im alone.

this is on 64 player servers with my video settings as it follows
12x10
everything high
4x aa

im blaming CCC because this never happened in Control panel

and yes i used driver cleaner and reinstalled.

there have been some posts from some people saying that only a reformat will help with ATI drivers. I personally don't know.

Did you delete the cache out of your My Documents/Battlefield 2/ directory?

Sorry but your pc is NOWHERE near top notch, try xp 4800+ and x1900xt and say that again...still yeah your fps are way too low for your system, got nothing more to add though.. after reformating come back and update us

Top notch enough not to have BF2 lag at those settings though. Mine doesn't lag, and my CPU is only 2.2 GHz with 4x512 MB RAM config and just equivalent video card (7800GT).

What temperatures are you showing with the X1800XL? And does the problem also happen when neither the CPU or GPU are overclocked?

Your rig kicks more ass than a truck full of asses and nikes speeding over a bumpy road, but people are calling you out on claiming it's 'top notch.' It's lower end enthusiast, for sure. But far from top notch. That'd be X1900XT in crossfire, or 7800GTX 512 in SLI, FX60 with 4 gigs. =)

Well, BF2 is notoriously buggy on any platform - if that's the only game that's slower, it could be a BF2 problem. Try to uninstall and reinstall BF2 before you go and reformat :p

I get weird as hell results with BF2, too. Okay, I'm running an X800 not an 1800, but still. I can play FEAR at horribly nice FPS, on medium settings (I find it very playable, so.. Meh at you people who like loads of eye candy) but BF2 often runs like crap, sky artifacts are notorius. Even on low settings.

Dunno what the hell kinda thing is going on with that. I don't play online, either. Only singleplayer, no increased bot mods either.

You need 2 gigs of RAM for BF2.

Don't listen to this. An X1800XL should play BF2 very well. I'm using a vanilla X800 at the same settings as you and I get about 40 fps. If you're getting such poor performance then something is wrong. You should not have to cut down graphics settings. Unfortunately I don't really have any idea what your problem might be.

just go ahead and disable CCC.

perhaps a new driver?

reinstall DX9 , then reinstall driver might help.

What makes you say that? I've got 1GB and it played fine (40-60FPS) while I had it installed. 2GB would help, especially with the loading times as all the reviews point out, but it isn't needed for solid performance.

In any case, that still wouldn't explain why he's getting worse performance with an X1800XL than he did with the X800XT.

If the OP, and myself, were having similar problems across the board with games, I'd agree with you. But, from my experiance (I don't speak for the OP here) BF2 has been a bit dodgy with 5.13 and 6.1 CCC, and changes to DX9 haven't made much change. I recently reinstalled XPSP2, as such, all the DX updates, and all my games. It doesn't appear to be that which is causing the isssue, the OP and I are running different versions of BF2, too, and we're both experiancing similar problems..

that was only a suggestion... Since I've been burnt by DX9 installation before.. DXdiag said everything was okay but system kept crushing when running games. Reinstall dx9 magically solved it. (by overwrite dx9c with dx9b, then reinstall dx9c)

'Tis a thought I'd have followed myself, had I not had to reinstall everything recently anyhow. I've never seen DX cause any problems with things before -- I guess I'm just lucky like that?

What exactly do DX problems do to games? Not having seen one, I'm not sure I'd recognise one if it jumped up and bit me.

For me.. switched from 4200 to 9600
dx9c

1. crush in dx9 games. At first the game slows down, then sound loss, artifacts, then blue screen.( not necessarily in that order)
2. random crush on startup. blue screen
3. opengl game crush.
4. extended load time starting/during games.
5. difficulty locating video drivers(defaults to vga driver)

Good deal!!! Bf2 has issues if you look at your keyboard the wrong way.....
