They say bad facts make bad case law, and this is a prime example. Manslaughter? Dear lord. The judge even acted like she had some duty to call to police or the boy's family. WTF is this world coming to? So if I get pissed at someone and I say "you should just go kill yourself" and they do so I can go to jail for manslaughter? Maybe not? What if I tell them twice? What if I say you should kill yourself by jumping off that bridge right there? What if I say same but I know the person has suicidal tendencies?

Its all so dumb. This beyotch is an evil ho, and I hope she burns in a fire, but what a stupid decision. Responsibility should like ON THE PERSON THAT DECIDED TO TAKE THEIR OWN LIFE.

I bet you need "safe spaces", too, don't you?

when you, through conscious, deliberate action, cause someone to die, that can be murder, pretty simple

"He got out of the car because it was working and he got scared and I f-----g told him to get back in."

This is the wrong fight, OP. On the list of things to get pissed about, this verdict is way down the list. Worst case, she gets a few years probation. We all know she deserves a lot more.

I'm pretty sure if all she'd done was think "That guy should kill himself" she wouldn't have ended up in court.

Nah, there is a precedent set here that is bad news, no matter how in the wrong she was.

If I randomly tell you to go DIAF, and you do...am I guilty of manslaughter? (disclaimer i am NOT telling you to go DIAF). It may seem extreme, but then people with mental illness are extreme anyway. You do not control what someone else does. This is way worse of a precedent than gun control. You could try to compare this to bullying, but again, you don't control what someone else does. It's a line that is going to be played more on the stupid side, than the safer side.

Still not a thought crime though.

The horrible decision was letting you back in from whatever place you were temporarily banished to. Let's home some mistakes are not repeated.

You don't think people can be controlled or at least manipulated by words alone? What rock have you lived under all your life? Just for starters, how many people do you think are scammed every single day?

The boyfriend isn't dead because someone told him once and 'randomly' to kill himself. By implying that you are either completely ignorant of the available evidence or you're intentionally misrespresenting it.

So you don't think something like this can and will be abused? Especially in this overly sensitive and out of control PC climate? What rock have YOU been living under? This is a ridiculous precedent to set. I am not at all saying she isn't in the wrong, but it's a bit over reaching.

This was an emotional campaign to convince someone to kill themselves. You're making it sound less important than it really is. It's not like just tell someone to go jump off a bridge. This was a long and meticulous texting campaign. Bitch deserves the full 20 IMO.

Intent matters

If you try to kill someone, it doesn't matter the means.

whether it's a gun, hiring someone else to do it, pushing them down the stairs or text messages, you're trying to kill someone, and that's a crime period

While I absolutely hate the precedent it sets if the decision stands and for that reason alone I don't agree with the ruling. However, IF said precedent was going to be set it should have been set on this evil bitch and I am glad she will be facing consequences.

Repeatedly encouraging someone to take their own life is not flippantly yelling at someone randomly.

Intent definitely matters, and was pertinent to this ruling.

For those who disagree, and claim that it sets precedent. To what exactly? Be aware of the cases details before replying.
