So my 6800 gt died due to overheating becuase the fans were filled with dust, so i decided to upgrade to the 7800 GS OC by Evga. Some games have suprised me by their performance increase. Like Oblivion , on my 6800 gt i got about 8 fps on high everything outside at 1280x1024. On the 7800 GS i can get 15-25 with some drops to 10 ,but otherwise very playable. However when it comes to battlefield 2 , the performance isnt much better. On my 6800 GT high settings were unplayable, explosions such as artilary droped my framerate below 10. On medium it was very playable with about 40 fps average and 25-30 during intense fire fights. With the 7800 GS i was hoping I would be able to run on all high , or at least high texture but no. Im still getting frequent drops below 10 fps during artilary or other explosions. On medium it runs great, around 60 fps most of the time. I thought it might be my hard drive causing the sudden drop in fps so i ran disk defrag but that didn't help. Im just disapointed that it can't run high.

My specs are
Athlon 64 4000
2 gb ocz gold ram
7800 GS OC
74 gb raptor

That is horrible bf2 performance. A 9800 Pro could run that game at 12x10/medium settings. The 7800GS should be more than twice as fast. Do you have aa/af on? What's your 3dmark05 score? Do you have aa/af turned on?

Very strange performance, I run 25 min fps with all high settings @ 1600x1200 on:

Venice 3000+ @ ~ 4000+ speeds
2GB PC3200 CAS 2.5
Integrated Sound
DFI Nforce 4 Ultra-D
Evga 6800GT
250GB WD2500JB PATA133 8MB cache (x2) (not in raid)

Edit: 0xAA 4xAF

you either have some weird drivers/hardware, or what I think most probable is spyware/virus. I had slowdowns like that when my computer was just INFESTED full of viruses and spyware, but once I used ZoneAlarm Pro and Spy Sweeper 4.5, all went back to normal. Check your internet activity, cpu and ram usage while you're not doing anything, just in the desktop background. If cpu usage goes above 5% for long, you got something in there probably, plus if there is any internet activity(blinking lights)when you're not even in the internet it's obviously spyware downloading its instructions.

i would do what tjpark recommended but i doubt it's that. that's pretty bad performance. why'd you even stick to AGP in the first place? an $80 mobo + a 7900GT is like $30 more but way more performance.

There is somethign wrong with the 7800gs and BF2 performance, i cant run it at high either, and i have very high overclocks. Its very stutterish and runs pretty crappy if set to high, however i run everything else on high now with low lighting because i dont require it, and i turn shadows off because they were ugly turned on even more to me, 4xAA, high AF and medium texture of course. I run average 45-65fps, lowest i seen mine dip is 34fps.

Thanks guys, i'll try these, worst comes to worst I'll reformat. Just kind of strange i can run oblivion on ultra at nearly 30 fps but can't run bf2 on high with more than like 5 fps.
