ARRGH GO AWAY!

i like how when it goes away, it slowly creeps back.

I think this is why I always have background noise going on (fan while I sleep, TV On in the background, car radio)

Tinnitus. I have it non-stop.

i always thought the ringing was just a natural side effect of your brain processing pure silence, or possibly just your brain making it happen somehow.....psycho-somatic or whatever it is called

Ah yeah If it gets to quiet in my room I have that issue, then I unplug the tv and other electronics and it usually goes away.

You would think they would have tested for that high frequency noise.

Does it sound like a heart pumping or is it more like a high frequency whine? I find I get the blood pumping thing in my right ear sometimes when I'm in bed. It's kind of annoying but somehow I manage to ignore it and it "goes away".

When in extremely quiet situations I can sometimes hear a very high frequency whine, it's not really annoying type of whine, it's hard to explain. Kinda like a a 8khz absolute sine but with a more metalic ring to it.

I have the same thing. Always have to play music or TV or something or it kinda "takes over" and I hear it loudly. White noise doesn't help.

My ears are also sensitive to high-pitched noises. I usually turn down treble controls on audio systems, and speaker systems that are referred to as "Bright" hurt my ears. The way they reproduce high-pitched sounds (cymbals mainly in music, but also high vocals, and those horrible SNAP! noises used in rap and hip-hop really kill me on some systems) feels like an icepick in my ears. I can also easily hear "ringing" in low-bitrate compressed music files, too.

I find such sounds will bother me too but it only does it at random, I don't know if it's like if I'm tired or something, or if I'm about to be sick, I can never pin point when, but there will be times where loud higher frequency sounds, even people talking might make a screeching noise almost like clipping, but in my ears. It's weird and it's not frequent enough for me to worry.

Tinnitus? when you been screwed, try to pull your earlobes down, and open your mouth bigger, hold 30S or more, it's always useful

chiropractor

It's worth checking out if you can find a good one. I had sharp pains and occasional ringing in my ear for more than a year. Went to all sorts of MD's and ear doctors. Had x-rays and the works. They found nothing. Went to a chiropractor for my back and I mentioned the ear. He applied pressure to part of my head and did some twisting and bending on various parts of my body and it was gone in 30 seconds. Had to go back a second time for another treatment but it hasn't bothered me since, and that was 15 years ago. :D

why would anyone want to go on mind altering drugs for a ringing in their ear that most people cope with easily after coming to realize what it is.

just so no to SSRIs.

I was mentioning a known side effect of SSRIs. Many of the latest SSRIs have little side effects, but this is one that may be of benefit. No one can go on an SSRI without consulting a doctor, so hopefully that would be covered by a physician, MOSH!

ARRGH GO AWAY!

i like how when it goes away, it slowly creeps back.

I think this is why I always have background noise going on (fan while I sleep, TV On in the background, car radio)

I can understand how it feels. About 10 years ago my wife and I were counselors at a church camp, opened up a seldom-used building, turned on a big fan. Short story I got really hot, put my face in the fan with my mouth open. About 4-5 hours later I started getting the worst sinus infection which spread to my ears. 3 weeks of pure misery, like they were full of water.

I was working phone tech support for an ISP then and had to take a week leave as I could not hear the person on the other end of the phone clearly enough.

When it subsided I was left with the most horrible ringing and squealing in my ears. I'm a full-grown guy but I'll admit several times when I was by myself I broke down crying thinking of what if it doesn't go away. Went to a hearing analysis unit at the hospital for testing, nothing found at that time.

After about 2-3 years the ringing and squealing in the right ear subsided to a light hiss, then disappeared. The left side after about 3-4 years went down to a very light hiss and some days it still is present. I have largely learned to ignore it, but no hearing loss in the left ear. Right ear 10% loss.

Point of this post? Just to let you know I understand how it can feel and it can be related to a lot of things, blood pressure/sodium intake, caffeine, even stress. I learned a lot about it back then. Fortunately my ears are 90-95% back to the way they were beforehand.

It can be very miserable.
