So im home for a few weeks from college and i went back to my job to earn some christmas cash. I work with my county maitenence crew and do mostly repairs and moving jobs. So today I was assigned to put together several tables that were recently ordered. I though, no big deal. The head boss(slimy douche bag, you know the type) assigned his dopey son to work with me. So I start assembling the tables and i find that these tables are very cheap quality. It was very tedious work trying to allign the bases of the table legs to the table...very slow going. All the while i bent over this table slaving away this kid is sitting on a chair behind me tapping a pocket knife agaisnt a steel I-beam(we were working in the basement). After i completely assemble the first table, which took about 30 minutes, I ask him to help with the second one. I started screwing in the screws on one half of the base, while he was working on the other. I look over and i see the kid WAY over tourqing(sp?) the screw with his allen wrench, he started the screw in crooked and just kept on tightening...:( i tell him to stop, but it was to late. He pulled the screw rifleling, i dont know what the actual term is called(the part of the table where the screw was supposed to go...its metal :p), ruining the table. Now we need to send it back and await a new one. So i figure, maybe its just an honest mistake. What does he do? does he try to work harder to redeem himself? Nope, he goes back to his chair and sits there for a FULL HOUR. On the 4th table, i was having so much trouble alligning the cheap bases, and he didnt offer to help...he just kept on sitting. So finally i just blew my top. I calmly laid down my wrench, turned the lights off and got in the elevator and left. Not sure how long he sat there after i left, but i went to my boss, my boss' boss is this guys kid, and complained. Not sure what will happen, but walking out on the fvcker felt great! Oh, and to top it all off, HE MAKES MORE THAN ME! What a crock...

CLIFF NOTES:
Boss' son is assigned to work with me
He does nothing for 30 minutes but sit in a chair
i ask him to help and he proceeds to ruin a table
he then proceeds to sit in the chair for another hour
i walk out on him and shut the lights off

Son, if you don't like your job, you don't strike, you just go in there every day and do it really half-assed. That's the American way.

nick, I'll give you one piece of advice: just say "oh well."

that's it. it's pretty simple. just say "oh well." it will save you a lot of personal frustration and aggravation. for example, if somebody cuts you off in traffic: say "oh well." you will be a lot happier, trust me. it's not a big deal. it happens. there are so many situations in life that are unfair, unjust, or just plain stupid. if you worry about it too much, you'll go home screaming every night (I worked as a manager at a pizza restaurant for a year, I learned this lesson the hard way lol).

"the boss's kid is a total slacker, gets paid more than me, and broke stuff today...oh well". it's kind of hard at first, but trust me, it works :)
