I've got this wierd problem with my display. It isn't clear. I have my screen at 1024x768 and everything isn't clear. If I set it lower (800x600) the display is very clear and comparable to anything else I've seen. The monitor is a 17" Envision CRT. It has seen 2 video cards, and ATI Rage 128 (oold) and a Geforce 256 (also old) and the quality of the image is bad in both.

If I set it at 85 Hz at 1024, it is so unclear that it hurts your eyes! It has to be set to 75 Hz for text to be readable for more than a few minutes. However, all is dandy at any lower resolution. I can run 85 Hz at 800x600 and have it perfectly clear.

Is this a result of 2 crappy cards or is it my monitor? Did the old ATI cards have these problems? I know the Geforces did...

EDIT ^ sorry I accidently pressed enter before i started typing

It's a little confusing from your post, but I think its your monitor. I guess what I want to know is, what exactly is "clear" and "unclear"?

Hmm. Its pretty hard to explain. Ok look at some text on your monitor. Mine isn't as good :p

I dunno, its like the text's edges aren't defined. It doesn't look really "blurry" but it looks "unclear."

However, at 85 Hz, you could sware you are getting double vision :Q

I know, the text looks "washed-out" like it is VERY slightly blurred. You know how you can adjust your eyes to make everything look blurry, well do that just a little and thats what I see at 1024x768.

Adjust your contrast and brightness - the fuzzy text problem will then go away.

I had this problem last week and was almost about to RMA the board.

Try adjusting the Convergence on the monitor if you have that option. I had a monitor suddenly have fuzzy text that looked horrible. It took me awhile but I finally tweaked the convergence settings and it fixed it 100%.

I have the same problem. I just put in a CHEAP SIS 315 video card (I had to RMA my 9500pro). I never noticed how clear and sharp the 2D was until I installed this new POS card. I have adjusted every montor setting available (it's a 19" Dell CRT) and also experimented with different resolutions/color depth/refresh rates...at 800x600 the text is crystal clear, but 800x600 is kind of like going back to using those fat pencils you wrote with in kindergarten :p

I finally settled on 1024x768 at a much lower than optimal refresh rate. The text is still a little fuzzy, but at least don't feel the need to gouge out my eyes after looking at the screen for 10 minutes.

With an LCD screen on an analog connection, LOWER signal frequency gives you a clearer picture. Go down to 60 Hz. Remember, TFTs do not flicker.

Then, some TFT screens are a bit stupid in their signal auto-adjustment. You can help it by opening a couple of windows, making one of them fullscreen, and have some text displayed, before hitting the AUTO ADJUST button.

I can't speak for firemoth, but I tried it with cleartype on and off, no appreciable difference in fuzziness.
