Horizontal wavy lines on my LCD monitor

Hey,

I just bought a new monitor--a samsung syncmaster 730b. However, I am noticing that I have wavy horizontal lines on my screen. I can really only see them on a black or dark background for some reason.

At first I thought it might be because of electrical interference or something. I moved my monitor far away from the rest of my PC/outlet/power bar and it appears to have no effect.

Can anyone tell me how to fix these wavy lines? Thanks.

I had an old 19" Dell (Sony rebrand) that started doing the same thing about 2 years ago. It never went away, no matter what I did.

Mine weren't wavy though, and they were red on a black screen. Straight across IIRC. And the number of lines, naturally, changed with resolution changes. So, when a game began to display FMV, I could tell by how many lines that the FMV was done in 800x600, then it would flip back to actual gameplay and I could see I was back at 1024x768 or whatever.

I had to look real close (on a completely black screen like you said) and I could see that there was actually a red and a blue line real close to each other, and not just the red line.

Never figured it out, but I gave that monitor to my dad about 9 months ago because he needed one real quick and I was itching to get rid of it. It still does it, and his setup was 100% different from mine. It's also fading real bad now; losing color and brightness.

try it on a different computer, if same issue, send it in...(if possible, try a different vga/dvi cable as well)

I tought that was because of a synching issue with the VGA cable, I had a setting on my old (now broken) LCD that helped this something about frequency (cant remember) if you have an option to use DVI try to borrow a DVI cable from a friend and see what gives.

make sure to borrow one before you actually buy one, because it wouldnt be nice to spend money on an expensive cable and then find out it's not the cable.

Yeah... but I don't really know anyone who would have one. From what I see though, this cable is only around 10 bucks online. It's worth the risk I guess. I do have the additional warranty from future shop which should cover this if the DVI cable doenst work, since the guy who sold it kept going on about how it'll cover dead pixels and other picture problems.

Thanks for everyone's help.

I don't have a Samsung, but I have a Dell 2005fpw. I have wavy lines problem on the left side of the monitor. Quite a few people are having this problem. We see them only under certain colors. Do you have an Nvidia card? If so, try to reduce the frequency and see if it helps. If it doesn't, send it back and get another one. Please let us know if you find something else.

Dont know if it's similar to your problem but here's my case:
Brought a 17" Dell Square LCD, installed Win 7 & Win XP.
Installed games (On Win 7: Metro 2033, Just Cases 2 On Win XP : FEAR,FarCry,Crysis,Singularity,BioShock)
Moniter is set at 1280*1024 60Hz, gaming is also done on a mixture of 1280*1024 & 1024*768 at 60 Hz
I am using an ATI 4850.

Everything looked fine initially in ALL games
One fine day the SMPS died when I was playing some game.
Got it replaced and then whenever I start ANY of the above games I keep seeing wavy horizontal lines moving up and down the screen.
This happens ONLY while playing games and that too ONLY when there is a brightly lit area in the game NOT otherwise.
i.e when I point the gun in a well lit area in the game the screen is filled with the wavy lines but as soon as I point to a relatively dark portion of the map everything's fine.
There is absolutely no drop in frames...just that its very irritating.
Everything is fine when I am in Windows (XP or 7)

My solution :
1. Isolated the screen so that it is away from power source/magnetic surfaces
2. Changed the res (in windows as well as in gaming)
3. Installed updated drivers.

Is it a SMPS/gfx card or LCD issue?
Since it's juts a month or so old getting the LCD replaced shouldnt be a problem.
Just need to get your input's
Thank's.
