Why is it that nowadays the horizontal box is not available.(Or is it? If so can anybody tell which brand still sells horizontal boxes). Is there any reason that tall tower is preferred over horizontal ones? It seems that the horizontal position is better suited for the bulky HSF used in the present day processors and even chipsets and graphic cards.

Any answers.

Newegg has several, one under Compucase and another under Enlight. The "desktop" case does have better inherent cooling properties than the tower case. Most tower cases would require additional fans to achieve equal cooling.
. It is just not popular because of its large footprint. In the past there have been cases that could work either way - had drive cages that could be mounted either way.

Hoping for :sun:!

The reason "why" is obvious: space savings. Would you like 10 cds or books spread out on your desk or stacked vertically? The same reason why skyscrapers are built instead of houses in areas (metropolitans) where space is valuable. Cooling solutions take care to make sure that a snug and secure fit is present although there are cases where they fail.

Space savings depends on situation though. If you have your desktop case underneath your 19" monitor you're using less desk space than if you have the monitor and computer standing side by side.

Last couple years I've started to miss desktop style cases. Not enough to actually buy one, but enough that I gutted/dremeled and otherwise abused an old 286's case to make it ATX complient enough to work for my spare computer. Then put it on the shelf along with the stereo components, fit in much nicer than a tower there.

Many people have their computer on the floor or a few feet away from the monitor these days. So the footprint usage varies. Overall though, more people can use a tower style without hassle than a desktop. So supply is greater on them, which affects their availability, model selection, pricing.

Found a few Desktop cases on NewEgg. Go to Cases and click ATX Desktop in search. Found quite a few there. Am sure others have them too.
