Had to leave work early today because my sump pump failed. Opportunity was there for 3 hours for something to be said. Nothing was.
Fingers crossed for tomorrow.

What if the box is a promotion for the OP?

That will be hilarious. You're promoted. I quit effective immediately! They'll think he is joking. "no, really ... I quit. I took another job but knew about the package and thought it would be a severance package so I was going to take the severance thinking that the timing would be perfect."

So, OP ... you have a severance as part of your contract with the company should they terminate your employment?

FWIW: I have a secure job right now and if I ever left I would demand a severance agreement in my contract. Which basically makes it pointless for me to even try looking for a new job.

You know it's going to be something really dumb and unrelated to the OP (and he'll never know what it was).

Or it's his employee of the month award.

Already told you the obvious...you boss is a slack ass. You might never get your severance package or your package severanced if it's up to him.:colbert:

OPEN THE BOX.

Condolences on the pump.

Foolishly I was(am) at work at 6am this morning. No need for me to be here this early. Read my book for the past hour.

Boss is a slacker and shows up between 9 - 10:30. I leave at 3. So he has a 4.5 - 6 hour window to speak to me.
I have a feeling he is going to wait until late Friday to say anything. If he says anything at all.

oh and the 1/4hp portable sump pump I used last night.....5 hours of pumping. Installed a 1hp and damn if that thing doesn't just kick ass. The pump that failed was some 1/4hp plastic piece of shit with a manufacture date of 03/11. Lasted only 4 years. Previous owner really went cheap with that thing.

Isn't it amazing how much power 1HP actually is?

I think sump pumps are another item to add to the "cannot cheap out on" list.

Yea, the 1HP is just amazing. I can now hear it in my living room, but it runs for only a few seconds (under 10). I think the 1/4HP just failed because it ran for so long.
Oh and a 5 year warranty on the thing and made of cast iron instead of plastic.

Nothign was said yesterday, but about 20 minutes before I left, the boss was on a call with his boss and stopped mid conversation to close his office door. Yep, talking about me.

Door remained closed until I left - call was over by then. Boss is loud and doors are thin.

THis morning, I let my curiosity get the better of me. Opened his desk drawer, which should be locked at all times and wasn't.

Yep, severance package for me. Effective Monday. Damnit, I have a new job starting Monday!
So I bet I get it Friday afternoon. It's nice too. 10 weeks pay. Maintain full benefits.

That works out well since medical at my new place has a 1 month hold. I could go on my wife's during that time, but why do additional paperwork if I don't have to?

So, what can I say to get this conversation going where he just lets me go home today? I have 3 batches of beer I wanted to start making and having tomorrow and Friday to do it would make me happy.
