I just got my PD 945 in today and put it in my Gigabyte GA-8N-SLI board. I was previously running a PD805 and could get it up to 3.42ghz without throttling, so I was hoping for around 3.8-4ghz with the new chip. For some reason, I can't get this thing past 3.6ghz stable. Won't even boot with 3.62ghz, it locks up past the POST screen. What would be causing this? My buddy said it would be the northbridge overheating, so i've taken the side panel off and it seems to have helped a little bit. Would investing in a nice NB fan help me out, or is this just a crap board for overclocking past 211mhz FSB :(. I would have expected at least a little more out of this chip/board combo.

You hit the same wall I did, with 2 920's I couldn't get past around 220mhz FSB on that board, even though I could hit 250mhz FSB with a single core, same problem I had with 945 chipsets. The only boards that will OC good with the 800mhz FSB pentium-d's are 955/965/975 chipset boards. My 805 was running at 3.6ghz on my 8N-SLI uisng a scythe ninja for cooling and 3.7ghz when I was using water cooling.
