Hopefully ill get to help dig the basement of the second largest house in Ohio

just smaller than the house of the late Al Lerner (now owned by his wife) which is about 33K square feet iirc.

the house we will be digging is a 17 coarse basement (13' high) and im figuring about 28K square feet.

it will be owned by a wolstein son, whose father was well known and donated tons of money to CWRU.

lets just say, when its gunna take a full week to dig a basement, thats huge. it took us 1.5 days to dig a 14 coarse 7300 square foot basement through 8" of shale at the bottom.

its big and big and BIG. way to big for me, but whats 20 million.

you will see a hole. compared to no hole

thats all we do. we dig a big hole, then they come and put up the block and pour it, and then we downspout it and backfill it (unless it needs inspected, then we backfill it after the downspout inspection) and then they build the house, then we do a rough grade, then we finish grade it after everything is done (our job is fully complete), then it gets landscaped etc.

a house that large is 5 years or so, Al Lerners house was over 1.5 years of just dirt hauling, we didnt dig that one though.

For those of us who live in places where there aren't any basements, can you explain what "x coarse" means.

how many block high it is going to be. 1 block = 1 coarse.

normaly 8" block.

Show us some pics. Before and after the digging.

you are talking 5 years from now between start and finish grade.

It took 2 years to tear down a huge department store and build a 15,000 seat arena in my city. How could it take 5 years to build a house?

Not to knock Ohio (as I currently reside there) but if I was going to build a $20 million dollar home it would not be in Ohio.

I think they use larger crews for building a city structure than for a private house but I could be wrong 😉

to build the outside of the house your talking about a month maybe, a house that size is gigantic.

heres the differences.

thestadium prolly had a union crew working on it, and prolly ahd about 30 ppl or more. we have 7.

stadium prolly had a time limit.

we dont have one specifically.

the stadium didnt require a septic system, basement, driveway, (2500-3000 ft driveway) graded out so as to make the house look like it belongs.

they prolly had scrapers to level the place out.

there are a ton of differences.

eh, he grew up around here, has ties in places around here, and 20 million will get you MUCH more house and land here than in any other well populated area.
