I have a ASUS P/I-P55T2P4 Revision 3.x that I am trying to put an AMD K6-2 500 mhz on. I found KALLE's T2P4 page and updated the Bios with the "BIOS #207 BETA 2". the old 233 boots just fine on the board with the new bios, but when I try to install the k6 the machine just sets and reboots... it doesn't even get past the memory check stage at the very beginning of the boot, but it does recognise the cpu as an AMD k6-2.

What I have done:
I loaded the bios.
Went into the bios and "load setup defaults and BIOS defaults" as Kalle says.
Tried setting the CPU Multiplier and BUS frequency to boot the CPU at 500(6x83), 400(6*66), and even at what I knew worked for the 233(3.5*66).
Tried setting the Core Voltage at every setting from 2.0v to 3.3v.
I have tried 4 sticks of mem at 96meg(as the 233 was running), tried 2 for 32mb, and tried 2 for 64.

Is there anything I have missed, something that magically needs to be done or do you think the CPU is bad?

Do you have a CTX K6? The K6 500 is supposed to be 5 x 100 right? How about 2 x 75 setting which remaps to 6 x 75 = 450. I run one with a K6-3+ 450 set up this way

The K6-3+ 450 rig

X 1.5 JP11 1-2 JP12 1-2 Pentium classic / K5 only!
X 2.0 JP11 2-3 JP12 1-2
X 2.5 JP11 2-3 JP12 2-3
X 3.0 JP11 1-2 JP12 2-3
X 3.5 JP11 1-2 JP12 1-2 Pentium MMX / K6 only!
X 6.0 JP11 2-3 JP12 1-2 AMD K6-II with CTX core and AMD K6-III with CTX core only!

YES you see right 1.5 = 3.5 & 2.0 = 6.0 . It depends on the CPU what you get!
And Intel likes to disable higher multipliers in P166MMX and P200MMX. (officially to prevent renaming, but unofficially to prevent o'c)

according to KALLE "All K6-II faster than 350 have the CXT core."

EDIT: Thinking about the 2x75 setting suggestion. I'll give it a try, but I am not sure that the bus frequency should matter unless you are overclocking, by underclocking at a rate i know the system can handle I should be eliminating that as a possible problem.

The CPU may be bad. Where did you get it? Anyway, new ones can be had for around $15. at various web sites.

Did you get it running? I have a T2P4 with a K6-2 500 and it runs fine. Kalle's site is where I got all my information also. Set your multiplier to X2. The K6-2 will read it as X6.

I've had my T2P4 since 1996. It's got too much sentimental value to retire it.

Also, when you get it running, that bios will call it a 400 Mhz chip, but it will be running at 500.
