I am watching TLC and they are saying this dam, which took 2 years and 5k men to make, is the life source of LA. I wonder is this a potential target - or rather could have been - because it seems to me it would be catastrophic beyond only the lives lost.

I think that rampant speculation about where and IF they may strike next does no good in this or any other forum right now.

Everybody should just keep their eyes open for suspicious activity, and call the authorities if something does not look right...otherwise, stop worrying about things you cannot change.

It's probably as much of a target as Grand Coulee Dam. Although there was a bomb threat there a few years ago...

Well I do know that they did close it down around noon on Tuesday, but that was just a precaution since they did that at Space Needle, St Louis Arch, Mt Rushmore, the Disney worlds so on and so forth. The only problem I see with it is that there would be no plane that would be leaving form the west coast at 3AM PST; I believe they either leave before midnight for the red eyes or in the morning around 8 or 9. Since they usually took of near where their target was going to be they would have to take off from the west coast to they have fuel. Just my $.02

The Hoover Dam is a potential target for terrorists. More likely, however, one day a truck carrying volatile chemicals could get into a nasty accident on Hoover Dam, and this would bring the entire structure down. That's why for several years, the U.S. Department of Transportation has been planning a Hoover Dam Bypass. The preferred alternative has already been selected (about 1500 feet downstream from the dam) and will be built over the next few years. The Hoover Dam will then be closed to all traffic.

If you have always wanted to drive across the Hoover Dam, now would be the time to do it. I have, and I got pictures of my visit :)

Here at AT there are alot of intelligent people. That's why I like it here. I do think maybe we shouldnt put so much thought into possible targets and then elaborate on those in a forum, because theres always the chance it could give some psycho better ideas than he could think of on his own. Save it for back porches and BBQs.

I surely hope not as I've relatives that live close by there. I've been to the Hoover Damn as well, very nice place. Changed a whole lot since the past 10 years. New parking lots, escalators, scenic spots, tours. Parking has been diverted a bit so that traffic doesn't go to and from the damn as often as before.

Yes, it is a target. it supplies a massive amount of hydro-electric power to Los Angeles,Los Vegas, and Phoenix and if the water supply is contaminated, many millions of people would be affected. Break the dam and the downstream flood destruction would be terrible. It was on a terrorist hit list as well as sport venues such as stadiums for ball games.

I was just informed tonight,a friend of mines son worked for a firm in Salt Lake City who had a middle eastern fellow who quit on Monday and moved his entire family out of the country. Conicedence? I don't think so. The information has been turned over to the FBI.

These terrorists and their opperatives are all around. You better wake up to the fact the enemy may be right around the corner. These terrorists that did this damage Tuesday were here in this country for over two years. No one suspected.

It's time to suspect.

If anything is a target, it is my city. Just research it. Yeah, we only supply enough gasonline to the southern half of the US

Lets just say its dam big! All I remember of the stats is that it uses enough concrete to build a two lane highway between LA and New York (I think...).
