a good chip + KO4 turbo + exhaust = 300hp @ crank. that's what my brother did to his A41.8T

the 2.0T engine is even scarier in its modding ability

<~~ former vw tech. yea a good chip and k04 and exhuast is 300 @ crank = after 15% drivetrain lost ( being on the nice size cause i dont know its a quattro) puts him at 255whp, which actually is a little high just for those mods alone, i see him putting down 260whp if he has a FMIC.

but i was just refering to you baby, 150-160whp is what should be having. yea after you fix that boost leak you problay took back 2-3psi of boost, which is always good

the 2.0T's were getting modded as i was leaving the VW world. But a chiped 2.0T passat was amazing. The best car that was the best feeling VW to me till this date was a 01 passat wagon TDI, chiped and the biggest turbo anyone can go before requiring more fuel, air and other mods. The owner mentioned area of 400+ torque....

NO surprise. I would friggin love a Passat TDI, but they're so rare!

I do like my '99 B5 5spd though. I need to check out the hoses as well though...I could have a leak. Mine doesn't feel as snappy as i should. And of course I wouldn't mind chipping it.

how fast is a 1.8T passat anyway?

you know those Comcast commercials about the Slowski's?

"Our Toyota Echo was MUCH too fast. We felt rushed."

"Yes. Rushed."

"Now we have a 1.8T Passat and are much happier. It's MUCH slower."

"Mmmm. Me time."

edit: When Car and Driver tested the W-8 version of this car, they said: "It makes you wonder if the pronunciation of "W-8" is 'wait.'"

i'll have to measure the 0-60 time so i can get an estimate.

Sure...400ft-lbs of torque...if you say so.

I'd like to see a FWD VW with 400ft-lbs of torque...traction issues much?

A stock 1.8L 4 cyl DOHC has around 130 crank without any forced induction. So they added *at stock* a 7 percent boost to get it around the 165 mark. So even if you double the boost, it would be more like 210 hp than 300. I just don't know where these numbers are coming from.

The new SS 2.0L Cobalt has a turbo that can go up to 20 psi and it's rated at 260 hp and that's with an inter-cooler. Though I'd imagine the max boost is not being used, or not being used in every gear courtesy of the ECU.

getting 300hp on a decently modded 1.8T is not hard by any means. even easier with S4's with the TT V6. my KO3 (stock) turbo maxes out at 15psi, according to the boost gauge.

mine has a chip and exhaust. 1.8T's have an intercooler stock. i probably have somewhere around 200hp @ crank (just a guess).

mine has a chip (apparently a crappy one, but better than stock), exhaust, and a lowered suspension. the PO (previous owner, not OP 😀) did most parts half-assed. so the suspension has shocks for OEM springs, but lowered springs :wtf;

that being said, the car is plenty quick for a turbo I4 and is tons of fun 😀

How much lower is it than stock? (I couldn't tell from the pics, not sure what the standard ride height on the Passat is)

From what I've read, a drop of 1.5" or less shouldn't really effect the OEM shocks/struts. I mean, the VW Driver's Gear 'sport springs' (rebadged Eibach's) for the MKV Golf drop the car 1.2", iirc. The European spec MKV GTI rides about an inch lower than the US spec and they both use the same shocks & struts.

However, I'd still prefer to save up the cash and upgrade the shocks, struts and springs at the same time.

it's lowered enough that the shocks have bottomed out on the rear 🙁

You sure it's the shocks and not a bump stop?

my brother confirmed. if you put weight on the rear and release, you can see/hear the car oscillate up and down due to the dead shocks 🙁
