Hookup laptop drive to pc??

Is there a cable that exists (ide) to hook up my laptop harddrive to my pc? My laptop died.....and I need to get some documents off of it.
I yanked it out.......and notice that it is ide......but couldn't get my pc's ide cable hooked up to it? Are they different?

Yes, they are different,You need this to accomplish your goal. Or you can get yourself an enclosure for it, again check the Egg, and then you have a large portable storage device.
