Hooking Up Stereo System to Computer....

What kind of sound card do I need to connect my stereo system (receiver, CD Player, etc.) to my computer? Do I need one with the 5 holes in the back (please excuse my inability to use computer jargon)? Is there anything else I would need (software, hardware, etc.)? Thanks in advance....

If you're using an SB16 with a stereo or ProLogic receiver, that's fine advice.

However, if you're using a 3D soundcard and a DD/DTS receiver, you want to use front/rear/digital-out to connect to the 5.1 analog inputs of the receiver. You'll have 4-point surround in games, and 5.1 surround with DVD.

If you actually meant what you said, and you want to hook your stereo up to your computer (such as for HD recording, etc), you need to utilize the rec-out of the receiver and plug into the Line-In on the soundcard. Any soundcard is capable of this.
