Hooking up SACD

I was always under the impression that 5,1 could travel through an optical cable, however when I bought my SACD player last night the salesman tried to sell me 3 sets of RCAs so I could listen to the SACD, because he said that was the only way 5.1 could be played (using the SACDs 6 preouts).

Is he right or was he trying to pad his sales.

It depends. Does your receiver/preamp have a HDMI 2.0 input? If it does, then he was wrong. If it does not, then he was correct.

He specifically asked about toslink, if he's asking that I seriously doubt he has a SACD player and receiver/preamp capable of HDMI 2.0.

You are more than likely right, but I've run into too many people who really have no idea what conections they have with their equipment.

This is the SACD player.
This is the receiver.

Being it has no HDMI inputs, muchless 2.0, I will pick up some RCAs so I can try out the SACDs.

Thanks for you help.
