yah same thing happens on my laptop..i think it has something to do with overlay...

what you should try to do is open up wmp and some other program like divx or gdivx...and try opening the file in varying order like divx first then wmp...try some variation and it'll work, i haven't done it in a while, but when i do use video out i have to do the same thing basically...

Things like DVDs and other video sources only seem to display on the primary monitor. I'm not sure how your laptop does video, but I have a similar problem with my desktop if I either extend my desktop onto my TV via horizontal spanning and move the, say, Winamp video window onto it. Same thing goes for using the Windows multimonitor tool if the TV isn't the primary monitor. I have to make monitor 2 (TV) the primary monitor after extending my desktop onto it and then reload windows. After that, I can watch movies on the TV and surf the web at the same time on my VGA. Also, using Clone mode works fine for simultaneously watching it on both.

This is with a Geforce4 Ti4400- your laptop mileage may vary, but I'd start looking in that direction.

Does [Funct] F4 or the Advanced Monitor Display settings make a difference?

see if you can update the video drivers on your laptop, my sister had the same problem and a driver update solved the problem.
