i tried doing a search on this with little luck. I just got a samsung 931BW monitor for my computer. it has a dvi port and a normal computer video port on it. i have an hd conveter/cable box that has a dvi out so i tried hooking up my dvi cable from the cable box to the monitor and it just gives me a screen saying

" not optimum mode
recommended mode: 1440x900 60hz
?
digital "

i tried going in my settings when i have the dvi cable conneted to my computer and changing all the resolutions then hooking it back up to the cable box. i did this back and forth with no success. even changed the cable box's settings to different formats. any ideas or am i just not able to do this?
thanx,
ryan

You might want to try a search on AVSForum for the exact model of cable box you have.

It's possible that your monitor can't deal with whatever resolution the cable box is putting out (although I would think that 480i/480p/720p would be supported on a 1280x1024 monitor; 1080i will not be, obviously). Can you run 640x480 or 1280x720 on the monitor from your PC? If so, then the cable box may be doing something funny with its DVI output (like setting a weird refresh rate that the monitor can't deal with).

i thought most hd cable box's digital outputs are hdcp enabled, which means that unless your monitor has hdcp, chances are, you won't get to see anything from your cable box

you can try connecting via vga cable and see if it works
