So i hooked up my Comcast box to my edtv (480p) except half the channels say subscription needed now. This didnt happen before i exchanged the box.

Well, i shut off the hd cable box and hit menu.

What should i set the signal as? 1080i or 480p? Would my tv just downscale the 1080i signal and make it look better.

Any info would be great

I guess it depends on which does the conversion better. I would try setting the box to 480p and see how it looks.

it seems like everytime you switch a comcast box, you have to call tech support and have them send a reset to the box....

I just had to do the same thing.

The motorola box is a POS. But in addition to that, it takes a while for it to get its guide and programming instructions.

Try whatever you like, it shouldn't display a "requires subscription" though. Call the cable company. Most all of your channels are 480i anyway so switch between 480i and 480p, then try your HD channels and see if the box or your TV display a better picture.

Most of the time, leaving it on 1080i will give you the best picture. Most plasmas are pretty good at "downscaling".

Going to 480p tends not to make much sense.

1080i should look better even on a 480p screen. Ussually when you switch to a cable box or get HD you need to call a tech to do something on thier end to get it to pick up your HD channels.
