Says it requires an external changer or prep, probably meaning some sort of wiring harness that would normally go to the external changer, but using it with the ipod instead. With an in-dash changer, its probably a completely different head unit that lacks that auxiliary capability.

I saw that setup previously f or 160$, getting a sat/cd changed bypass cable was another 50$ + the 15$ tools...made it more then what it would cost to have it factory installed, which is why i was wondering if i can still get the 'factory' one done at the dealership or not?

If not, I guess I will have go to this route, of doing it myself.

Also, I heard these work with the first gen iphones, but the second gen iphones do not charge, but it does work.

exactly why I went with the 2.0T, plus the B6 body's are ugly in my opinion...that curve trunk lid on my b7 is sexxy!

why would you need to keep your cd changer if you're plugging in an ipod?

The system requires a changer or changer prep because the ipod adapter hooks into CD 7-12 and the in-dash or other changer uses CD 1-6. At one time there was a conflict between the satellite radio connection and the ipod adapter connection (you could only have one or the other), but I think that has been solved by a harness change.

However, all that being said, the OEM adapter is disappointing. When connected, the controls on the ipod are disabled and you can only use the steering wheel or radio controls to operate the ipod. In addtion, the mode of operation is that it assigns your first 5 playlists (in alphanumeric order) to CD 7 - 11 and CD 12 is all songs (alphabetical by song title). Now this may not sound too bad until you realize that no title or artist information is sent from the ipod to the radio display, so all you see is a track number. I haven't quite figured out the best way to organize my playlists to make this workable.

The best workaround I've found so far is that you can unplug your ipod, go to a specific album, press play and then reconnect the ipod. It will then play the album in its entirety.

On the plus side, i like that it charges your ipod while it is docked. Mine was a factory installation so there is a little pocket in the glovebox where a hard dock is installed. It is not just a loose cable like in the picture. It's secure and out of the way of prying eyes when the car is parked. Sound quality is good as well. If it wasn't for the crappy user integration, it would be great.

There are many other aftermarket versions that have different operating characteristics. None send text information to the display last I checked, but some allow you to operate the ipod from it's own controls while connected.

mmm, I basicaly have the same, except mine is a 4 door. 6 speed rocks.

I have an IPhone and was told it would work, and a big thing would be charging it while using it. Also, I would not have a lot of songs on there to begin with, 5-7 gigs or so, maybe...so the crappy controls are not a big deal.

I just have to find the dang harnesses and such to do it.

If it is anything like mine, no you will not. It asks you if you want to go into airplane mode when you plug it in, and if you don't calls just won't come through.

I have a Harmon/Kardon Drive + Play. A message pops up on the screen saying that the device is not compatible with the iPhone and that calls will not work. Then it asks if you'd like to put it into airplane mode. I have never received a call while it's plugged in (even if I do not put it into airplane mode) but have received voicemails after I've unplugged it.
