I'm trying to access my laptop hdd, I hooked up a standard IDE adapter seen below:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16812119020

But the real problem is, that I cannot see it in My cmoputer or access it, yes it does show up in device manager and in the bios, I must've missed somtehing though... what's up? BTW, I'm not trying to format this drive or anything, my laptop broke(different story) and so I'm trying to see if I can save anything.

I would start trouble shooting it from the Disk Management Utility under control panel. If the drives showing under there then there must be a drive letter assigned to it.

If the drive shows under the device manager then in must show up under Disk Management...

Yeh, sounds like you need to assign it a drive letter in Disk management
right click My Computer, choose Manage
down near the bottom, on the menu on the left is Disk Management, right click the laptop drive and 'assign drive letter'
