Hooking up a CD-RW and CD using IDE

Should I worry about putting the CD-RW and the regular CD on the same IDE channel? I thought it would limit the transfer speed, but I haven't seen anything on the net mentioning this being a problem.

When I tried it on my in-laws PC, a Plextor 8-4-32 can't read from a Creative 52X at full 8X. Is that normal? Or can it be fixed by running them off seperate channels.

AND if that is the case, I guess I should worry about not doing stuff that causes HD activity?

Thanks

I have the exact same set up as you and there was a previous post addressing this same issue. Now if I remember correctly the post said that even Plextor recommended putting each drive on a separate channel and that the reason your Plextor drive does not "burn" faster than 4x is because that is the highest speed it can do so without making a "coaster". Don't worry about hard drive activity(can't avoid it anyway!)realize that with our combination and set-up(CD-ROM to CD-R), even at "only" 4x this is still faster than making an image and then burning!
